MUMBAI: Rajkummar Rao is thrilled to be working on the Karan Johar-produced film Mr. and Mrs. Mahi. Rajkummar recently discussed losing roles to star kids in a conversation with co-actor Janhvi Kapoor and director Karan. Regarding the insider-outsider controversy, Karan expressed doubts about the idea that skipping parties results in lost movie opportunities and claimed that some people use it as a publicity stunt, according to the widely-read news website.

Karan, while speaking about the nepotism debate said, “Sometimes they are using it as a toll to make headlines. Immensely successful people are saying, ‘Oh I felt victimized like an outsider and lost the opportunity to a star kid’. Somebody is saying, ‘I didn’t attend a party so I didn’t get a role.’ I don’t know at which party there has been transactions for films.”

Responding to Karan, Rajkummar said, when he first arrived in Mumbai, he was also told about attending parties for networking. He said, “Making contacts is not a problem, but going to a party and say, ‘Hi I am here to make contact.’ But having said that, I was supposed to do a film, but then suddenly I was not in that film overnight. Somebody who is known and happened to be a star kid got that part. I my mind I think it was not fair. Just because you can control things, you know people, you can make some calls, it is being unfair. That film never got made eventually. That guy was an insider but he could have also been an outsider who is successful and could do the same to you.”

Before Karan brought it up in their most recent conversation, Rajkummar had discussed losing a movie to an outsider in a previous interview with Ranveer Allalhabadia. He admitted that nepotism contributed to his replacement in a movie, but he expressed his preference for moving on. He said that the fact that the movie hadn't been made looked to be karma.

Rajkummar Rao is enjoying his current success with the release of Srikanth. Since its May 10 release, the movie has performed well at the box office. Star Ranveer Singh also praised himself on social media by posting compliments on his account. Before this, Akshay Kumar had also applauded the movie and suggested that Rajkummar take up acting training. In the movie, Rajkummar portrays the vision-handicapped industrialist Srikanth Bolla.
