In an exclusive interview with Tellychakkar, Raj & DK were asked about the initial plans of Stree where Ayushmann Khurrana was approached to be a part of the movie. Raj & DK revealed some very interesting things here.
The duo said, “Yes I mean we wrote it, Stree is from my childhood story. It’s been sitting in my head for some 7 years by then and DK and I are from similar town…there was a weird phenomenon there which didn’t make sense so we our own fictitious story on top of that to create a certain feministic angle and gender reversal to it, then we knew it was a good story otherwise it was just a funny, simple horror comedy. We wanted a simple horror comedy so my first pick was Rajkummar Rao so we went there and I wanted to make it as cheap as possible…I knew Raj was the perfect candidate but then of course once you hear of this that we’re making it, they weren’t sure of who is directing it you know, everybody thought we were directing it and we were also thinking should we direct it because we didn’t have time, there’s not enough time, and the Family Man was starting so we couldn’t really get away so we said anyway it’s our baby, we are producing it, we are directing it and our first AD from Go Goa Gone was with very interested and yes once the story got out, we did meet a bunch of actors who were all but Raj was always in the mind, fixed in mind.”
This was Raj & DK before the release of their Amazon Prime series Citadel: Honey Bunny.
