Aishwarya Rai hopes people become more aware about cancer

Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who supported a Women's Cancer Initiative event here, says people generally need to be more aware of the disease as early detection can give them a better chance at a cure.

Aishwarya interacted with the media when she supported WCI's Soul Stirrings event, hosted by Tata Memorial Hospital here on Tuesday.

The actress and former Miss World pointed out that there are many myths in the country about cancer as a disease.

‘There are so many myths and misconceptions in our country that it is astonishing to realize and recognize that there are so many people even in this day and age who believe that a disease like cancer could possibly be contagious to us. That's shocking, but to many, it seems that's a fact.’

‘That just boils down to lack of awareness, education, access to information, recognizing what this disease is all about and the step you need to take as simple as early detection,’ she said.

Aishwarya said it is important to educate people and create awareness among them about cancer.

‘Events such as these have come together to draw attention and raise awareness, increase dialogue, make information more accessible to people and have people coming for their regular check-ups for early detection because that in the course of action is referred to as a baby step, but it is the most important step to a possible cure of the disease when a patient has it.’

‘So, earlier detection gives you a higher chance at a cure and that's a possibility that every person should humanly have a right to access. We hope this early detection of curable cancer in women will be an important component of the cancer control program in India.’

She applauded WCI's event for supporting and taking care of various issues related to cancer, especially amongst underprivileged women.

My focus right now is acting, films: Ranveer Singh

There has been an immense buzz surrounding his coming wedding with actress Deepika Padukone, but Bollywood star Ranveer Singh says his focus in life right now is acting and films.

‘Right now, I am focused on the work that I am doing in films. I am doing back-to-back films. I've been very blessed to have some really amazing projects at hand and I tremendously value these opportunities,’ Ranveer told to a leading publication.

‘I want to do my bit to contribute towards the filmmaking process and to try and make the best films possible. So, my focus in life right now is acting and films,’ added the actor, who has been named as the brand ambassador of nutritional supplement brand BigMuscles Nutrition.

Ranveer walked into Bollywood in 2010 as a raw Delhi boy with Band Baaja Baaraat. Since then he has essayed varied roles to perfection.

There are projects like Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, Lootera, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, Gunday, Dil Dhadakne Do, Bajirao Mastani, and Padmavati in his film portfolio.

At the moment, he is working on Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy, Rohit Shetty's Simmba, and Kabir Khan's 83.

Ranveer says finding a place in Bollywood was a tough task.

‘Trying to get a break in a very insulated mainstream Hindi film industry was a great and big challenge. Then to try and shoulder big films and larger-than-life characters in parts that have... myriad layered emotions to play... some requiring a level of maturity and evolution. Those are some significant challenges that I have faced,’ he said, responding to a question on the challenges he faced while making a name for himself.

‘I actually never feel pressure because I never allow it (to) creep (in). I feel pressure is a very negative connotation and I never allow anything negative to enter my system or affect me in any way answered when asked have you felt a pressure of failing the expectations of others?’

‘I am an artist, so for me, there is no success or failure. There are no rights or wrongs in acting. There is nothing that is quantifiable in acting.’

He says there are just ‘different ways to do things’.

‘Acting falls into the realm of subjectivity, so there is no success or failure. There are no good or bad performances. There are just different performances. I don't feel pressured. The only person's expectations I need to fulfill are my own.’

‘I need to ensure that I pump more and more of myself and my energy into my performances and hopefully, with each performance and each character that I play, I grow and evolve. I have expectations of myself. So it's a very personal thing. So, the pressure is something I don't feel and most certainly not from an external source,’ he added.

On his association with BigMuscles Nutrition, he said, ‘I was supposed to transform my body for my action film Simmba and I was looking for a supplement brand that would help me in this endeavor, and I started using the products. They then shortly invited me on board as their brand ambassador and I am glad to be associated with a fitness and quality-conscious brand like BigMuscles Nutrition.’

Suniel Shetty supports 'Let Avni Live' campaign

Actor Suniel Shetty has come out in support of a campaign to save man-eating tigress Avni from being killed.

The Hera Pheri actor on Wednesday tweeted, ‘Chasing and killing a mother means risking the lives of young babies, especially when she's not been getting out of the forest and has confined herself to her home, the forest.’

‘We must show her respect, respect the forest and let them live in peace. Let Avni live,’ Suniel added.

The five-year-old tigress is currently the focus of a hunt for the past two months after she allegedly killed human beings in the lush Pandharkawada forests of Yavatmal in eastern Maharashtra last year.

The Bombay High Court's Nagpur Bench on Tuesday admitted a PIL that sought a stay on plans to kill Avni and instead capture her alive.

According to a leading portal the petition to save Avni, her killing ‘would eventually result in the death of her two cubs too, as they are both too young to hunt and survive on their own’.

Salman wishes Iulia luck

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has sent good wishes to actress Iulia Vantur, his rumored lady love, who is making her Hindi film debut with Prem R. Soni's directorial Radha Kyon Gori Main Kyon Kaala.

Salman on Tuesday tweeted, ‘Wishing the team of “Radha Kyon Gori Main Kyon Kaala” all the best and all the success! Iulia Vantur.’

Along with the tweet, he also shared the film's poster. She is seen in the avatar of a Krishna devotee.

Before making her debut with this film, Iulia, a Romanian model-actress, has already marked her presence in Bollywood by singing parts of songs like Party chale on and Selfish in Salman-starrer Race 3.

The story of Radha Kyon Gori Main Kyon Kaala is around the rape of a foreigner who visits India to know and understand Indian culture. Also starring actor Jimmy Shergill, the film will release in 2019.

Aamir had a blast dancing with Big B

Actor Aamir Khan says he had a great time not just sharing screen space with veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan for the first time in Thugs of Hindostan, but also shaking a leg with him in the film's song Vashmalle.

The song was unveiled on Tuesday.

‘I was so excited to do a song with Mr. Bachchan, that for the first time in my career I have enjoyed dancing! Had a ball,’ Aamir tweeted.

Composed by acclaimed music directors Ajay-Atul and sung by singers Sukhwinder Singh and Vishal Dadlani, Vashmalle is a fun song that features Amitabh and Aamir in a fun avatar. They can be seen getting drunk during the celebrations and then breaking out to dance with high energy.

The track has been choreographed by ace choreographer and actor Prabhudheva.

Vijay Krishna Acharya, who has directed the film, said in a statement, ‘It is amazing that we could write a suitable moment in the film that sees these two icons of Indian cinema shake a leg with each other and the song will stand out because of their infectious energy and camaraderie.’

Also featuring actors Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh, Thugs of Hindostan will hit the screens on November 8.
