MUMBAI: In today's retro movie segment, we walk down memory lane to the time when late actor Dilip Kumar's wife Saira Banu revealed how Ashok Kumar and Dilip saab were associated with Bombay Talkies studio and how the mentorship of Ashok Kumar made Dilip Kumar the star. Saira in her social media post had mentioned how Devika Rani had introduced the two legends.
Their first warm handshake started off their friendship. She had written in her post, "Devika Raniji, a picture of elegance, welcomed them and took them personally to the floor where a shooting was going on. She led him to a man who was well-dressed and looked distinguished. His dark hair was combed back, and he smiled through his eyes at Sahib (Dilip Kumar). He held his hand in a warm handshake that marked the beginning of a friendship that was to last a lifetime. He was Ashok Kumar, the superstar who soon became “Bhaiyya” to Sahib."
Take a look at Saira Banu’s old post on Dilip Kumar-Ashok Kumar:
Ashok had also given a lot of confidence to the young Dilip Kumar and the first lesson that he was taught was to be natural in front of the camera. He (Ashok) said, "It’s very simple. You just do the scene given to you as you would behave in a real-life situation; if you were really in it, it would be natural; if you try to act it out, it will look silly."

Saira also remembered Dilip Kumar calling Ashok Kumar with respect. She also revealed that Raj Kapoor used to give them company. “Ashok Bhaiyya lived close to the Studios those days and Raj and Dilip Sahib were always welcomed in Bhaiyya’s home to savour hot Bhajiyas made by his wife Shoba Bhabhi. Raj Kapoor would often join Sahib and hug him excitedly saying that he’s happy to know that he had joined the acting profession", she remembered.
