Rishi Kapoor once light-heartedly joked about co-star Meenakshi Sheshadri; Says ‘Tumhara Bharatanatyam kam karo’

The co-stars grew close in real life after sharing the screen in films like Bade Ghar Ki Beti, Ghar Parivar, Gharana, Sadhna, and Vijay. Meenakshi is about to return to Hindi cinema after a twenty-year hiatus, and describes the connection with the late actor as "informal."

MUMBAI: Meenakshi Sheshadri and Rishi Kapoor were a popular on-screen duo in the 1990s.

“Rishi ji was amazing. He has worked with people of so many generations and made them feel at home, which he did with me. Sometimes we also shared people who were working for both of us and helping both of us. He lived so close by in Pali Hill that I could just walk from my house to his house and spend some time with him and Neetu ji. I think he was the only actor with whom I could do that. I met him off-set and informally,” the Hero actor told the popular news portal in an interview.

Rishi, known for his unfiltered opinion and cracking jokes on his co-stars, would often pull Meenakshi’s leg who is a trained classical dancer. “He used to say, ‘Kabhi kabhi tumhara dance mujhe samajh nahi ata. Tumhara Bharatanatyam kam karo.’ (Sometimes I don’t understand your dance. Don’t do too much of Bharatanatyam).

The actor left Bollywood and lived in Dallas with her husband and children after spending nearly 26 years out of the spotlight, recounted how the Bobby actor helped her create her X (previously Twitter) account and offered advice on how to make a comeback.

She shared, “Rishi ji was that person with whom I shared 100 percent comfort and could ask him what if I wanted to make a comeback. When I started my Twitter account, I asked Rishi to help me and pass on some of his followers to me, and he obliged. He never questioned, and he never made excuses. I’m grateful to him.”

The veteran actor asked his followers to recognize Meenakshi in a photo he posted on X back in 2015. “Any guesses who this is? I didn’t recognise her for a moment. What a lovely surprise. Name in 30 mins no hints,” Rishi tweeted. His tweet raised a lot of curiosity among fans. He further added, “Damini, MS, lives happily with hubby Harish Mysore and 2 kids, a girl and a boy in Dallas, U.S. Visiting relatives, can work in film if a good role.”

The Jurm actor also mentioned that she regretted not keeping in contact with Ranbir Kapoor. “It’s unfortunate that I haven’t been in touch with Rishi ji’s son, Ranbir, and we don’t know each other very well. I hope to rectify that and meet him, especially now since he’s married and has a kid,” added the actress.

“Rishi ji was given the tag of a chocolate boy, and Amitabh ji (Bachchan) was called the angry young man. Both of them were getting stuck doing similar kinds of roles. Then they both decided to take a break and come back to doing better roles. I saw the same intensity in Ranbir’s eyes in Animal that I had seen in Rishi Ji’s eyes in Agneepath,” she added.
