Rumi Jaffrey opts out of Shaukeen remake

In a second such move by any director for a particular film, filmmaker Rumi Jaffrey has backed out of the Shaukeen remake that is being produced by Cinekorn Productions Private Ltd. The earlier film, made way back in 1982 was directed by Basu Chatterjee. While the film made in 1982 had Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt and A K Hangal…Annu Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Anupam Kher have taken their places in the new film. Initially when taken on board Rumi, who had last written and directed Gali Gali Chor Hai, was quite excited about the project but unfortunately couldn't be part of it primarily due to date issues. "The film has got delayed to next year... to January. It feels sad that I couldn't do it. I have other commitments to fulfill and there was no way I could manage things," he said. Here it may be remembered that last year actor Rohit Roy was all set to remake the film in question that was to be produced under Bunty Behl's banner Carving Dreams that had reportedly obtained the remake rights from Chatterjee. However, both the producer and director were in for a shock when they received a notice from Eagle Home Entertainment, claiming that their company had all the rights of the film, including the negatives and the remake. And later after Eagle got the NOCs, they sold the rights of the film to Cinekorn Productions Private Ltd. that had earlier made television shows like Piya Ka Ghar and Haunted Nights under their banner Entertainment Hub.
