In the first look from the biopic on actress Shakeela, Richa Chadha flaunts a fresh avatar in a Kerala sari Kasavu Pattu. She says the movie will allow her to capture a range of looks as the story spans over a few years.

Richa plays Shakeela in the film, directed by Indrajit Lankesh. The film will delve into the life of the glamorous actress, who has worked in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language films since over two decades.

For the film, Richa has begun shooting in a small town in Karnataka called Tirthahalli.

"So, the looks span over years and years and with each passing time her look changed. To show that is challenging but also for me as an actor, it's gratifying that I get to grow with the real character on celluloid. Film on Sam Manekshaw not a biopic: Meghna Gulzar

Acclaimed filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, who has a knack of telling gripping real life stories through her movies, says that her forthcoming film based on the life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw will not fall under the category of biopic.

Meghna was interacting with media at Dinesh Raheja's book launch titled "101 Haiku" on Thursday.

“I am making film on the life of Field Marshal of our country Sam Manekshaw but it's not a biopic. My last film Raazi was also not a biopic but with my upcoming film, I want to showcase life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw," she said.

Meghna's forte as filmmaker is that she chooses real life stories for her films but makes dramatized version of it. Her last released film Raazi starred Alia Bhatt and was about an Indian spy in Pakistan.

Based on Harinder Sikka's book, "Calling Sehmat", the film earned positive reviews among the audience and critics.

Meghna directorial and Vishal Bhardwaj written Talvar was based on sensational 2008 Noida double-murder case (Aarushi Talwar Murder case). After that, Vishal Bhardwaj is back with another crime story naming it as Talvar 2.

It is being bankrolled by Junglee Pictures but the director's name is yet to be confirmed.

Asked if Meghna will direct that film, she said, "It is being made but I am not directing Talvar 2.

Sam Manekshaw was the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of Field Marshal. His military career spanned four decades and five wars. Manekshaw's military victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak war led to the creation of Bangladesh.

He died at the Military Hospital in Wellington, Tamil Nadu in June 2008 at the age of 94.

'Dhadak' is Shashank Khaitan's best film, says Karan Johar

Director-producer Karan Johar who is happy with the success of his recently-released film Dhadakon Thursday praised filmmaker Shashank Khaitan saying that this is the best film that he has directed till date.

Johar was interacting with media at success meet of Dhadak along with film's actors Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor and director Khaitan.

When asked what was his reaction after watching Dhadak, he said, "When Shashank told me that he wants to remake (Marathi film) Sairat, I was bit scared because that film has its own individuality. The kind of tone that filmmaker (Nagraj Manjule) has been able to hold is very difficult to capture but confidence of Shashank is very infectious so, when we decided to make the film, I know it had to be with new talent.

"When I saw end of Dhadak, it made me shake a little bit but when I again watched it, I felt Shashank has done an exceptional job in adapting the source material."

Praising Khaitan further, Johar added, "He has taken a lot of sequences from the original one but he made a new film and characters for pan India audience. It is his third film as a director but in all three films that Shashank made, I think Dhadak is his best film directorially.

"There are certain scenes where he has tried to take extra pauses and also added energy from his side. He has been very graphic, intelligent, strategic and emotional. As a director myself, I feel this combination is very rare to achieve so, I am very proud of him."

Asked whether he was nervous when his production house decided to remake the Marathi film in Hindi, Johar said, "I wasn't nervous, I was petrified and I still am because I think every time, you touch piece of art and recreate or adapt it, there is always monumental fear but I never looked at it like that. I have always said that this film is not anywhere meant to be compared with Sairat.

"It's fan boy's homage to original source material so, if making Dhadak is wrong, then every fan in the world is also wrong who appreciate great piece of art. In fact, I see so many people going back to watch Sairat after they have seen Dhadak and that is an achievement of homage. You cannot ever compete with brilliance of that filmmaker because he conceived it, wrote it and executed it so, we are just big fan of that film."

Dhadak has managed to mint a total of RS. 48.01 crore at the end of sixth day since its release and is expected to cross Rs 50 crore mark soon.

I'm not a born model, says Kareena Kapoor Khan

I'm a born actress, not a born model, Kareena Kapoor Khan said as she shimmered in a heavily embellished 30 kg golden ensemble at a couture gala here on Thursday night.. Kareena felt "glamorous" and "beautiful" in the Falguni and Shane Peacock lehenga with a Parisian touch at the gala.

"I guess I am just a born actress, and not a born model. So when all the models were walking in front of me, apart from the fact that they are so tall and gorgeous, I realised that it's so tough and I was so nervous," Kareena told the media after the show.

Kareena said, "I have walked the ramp for nearly a decade and more, but probably this is the first time I am wearing an outfit that weighs 30 kg. But if it wasn't for Falguni and Shane Peacock, I wouldn't have done it for anyone else.

"It's making me feel glamorous... But I know it's really, really tough when you wear these heavy outfits throughout. But I am looking beautiful."

The designers' ensembles were teamed up with jewels by Prakshi Fine Jewellery.

Day two of the India Couture Week began with a show by veteran designer Pallavi Jaikishan, who showcased 'Nostalgia', an amalgamation of her classic old designs revisited and modified to a collection that resonates with the woman of today.

She took her two-decade old Chakra design and blended it with flower motifs, lending a contemporary avatar. Known for her classic flowers done in French knots on saris, these are presented with a new element.

Besides the usual tulle and georgette duchess satins, Jaikishan used a translucent fabric with a glass touch. She also used French lame and tissue for a pleated line and a line of French and Italian brocade lehengas with embroidered dupattas and blouses.

The colour palette in dove blue, old rose and silver oyster with a touch of pink, was highlighted with metallic tones in various shades of gold and silver.

On the sidelines of the gala, the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) felicitated model Renee Kujur, who came to limelight for her striking resemblance with international R&B star Rihanna. The tribal girl from Chattisgarh left her home and family years ago and came away to Delhi to make a life as a model.

Soldiers fighting at the border are real heroes, says Rajkummar Rao

National award-winning actor Rajkummar Rao says that the definition of a hero is changing and it is soldiers who protect the borders of the country who are heroes, not actors.

"I do not know what it feels like to be a hero, I am an actor and I always wanted to feel like an actor. In fact, if someone comes to me with a script and address the lead character as a hero, I insist to take the name of the character.

"We are not heroes. Heroes are those people who are fighting at the borders to protect us.... we are just doing our job. We are not heroes," he told media at the trailer launch of his horror-comedy film Stree on Thursday.

Actors Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurrana, director Amar Kaushik, producer Dinesh Vijan among others were also present.

Asked about how he looks at the changing image of mainstream heroes of Bollywood from larger than life to more realistic, the Newton fame actor said, "I think the definition of heroes is changing. I think that is why our Bollywood superstar like Aamir Khan is playing a middle-aged father in a film like Dangal."

"Yes, there will be a genre always which is action, where flaunting the body and doing action, will be part of acting; if you want to call it (such character) hero but I think now finally content is getting its due, character-driven stories are celebrated. Our audience wants actors to portray characters," he added.

Stree is releasing on 31 August.
