MUMBAI: Actor and presenter Sonam Chhabra has publicly slammed digital creator Sufi Motiwala for mocking her Cannes Film Festival look in a viral video. The incident has sparked a major conversation online around public trolling and the performative nature of some friendships in the influencer world.

Sonam, who recently walked the red carpet at Cannes, wore a striking white outfit paired with a cape that featured the names and dates of major tragedies in India:
2008 – Mumbai, 2016 – Uri, 2019 – Pulwama, and 2025 – Pahalgam with #Unbroken. The look was meant as a statement of remembrance and tribute to the lives lost in these attacks.

However, Sufi Motiwala, known for his commentary and reaction videos, mocked Sonam’s look in a reel and referred to her simply as “that girl.” This prompted Sonam to respond publicly. She posted a screenshot of a message she sent directly to Sufi, expressing her anger and disappointment.

Here’s the full text Sonam shared in her Instagram story:

"Remember me? I'm sure you do as you gained a million views because of me in a day with the trash videos on my Cannes look.
Was waiting for you to get out of the show—not that you were going to win anyway—but it was very uncool of you to troll me for my Cannes attire the way you did.
I understand the frustration of never making it to international events. You could've called me or dropped a text rather than making it dirty like you did.

What's sad is I genuinely considered you a friend—we have literally eaten together, partied together! You're sending me 'Love you' messages on personal while calling me 'that girl' on your videos.

You really don't know my name? Or is it just lack of basic manners?

Sad. I thought you were a friend. People like you can never be genuine."

Her statement quickly gained traction, with fans and followers supporting her for speaking up. Many pointed out the double standards in online commentary—where creators often maintain personal equations in private, but act dismissively or performatively in public for views.

As of now, Sufi Motiwala has not responded publicly to the criticism.
