Is Sonu Niigaam scared of filing an FIR against Chhota Shakeel?

What do you think you would do if the underworld threatens you? Any sane person would immediately rush to the police to file a complaint and seek protection. Right? However, singer Sonu Niigaam seems to be doing the opposite. Five days after the news of the underworld threat broke out, Sonu is yet to file a formal FIR with the police. While Sonu was abroad when Chhota Shakeel's threat made national headlines, the singer seems to be in no great hurry to register an FIR even after returning to India. Instead he drafted an elaborate written statement and circulated it to the media. When we caught up with Sonu at the launch of animated movie 'The Mystical Laws' yesterday, Sonu as expected, was at his evasive best when confronted with questions about the threat. “I have issued a written statement to the media. Have you read it? Whatever I wanted to say I have said through that statement. I have written it with a lot of heart and soul." When asked to throw more light on the statement, Sonu asked the media to kindly refrain from giving this issue any more importance than is necessary."Yeh soche ki kya is baat se mera kuch bhala hoga ya mere family ke liye accha hoga."(Please understand that this issue won't do me or my family any good). It is believed that Chhota Shakeel wanted Sonu to sign his world tour contract with a man that he (Shakeel) had chosen. Sonu apparently refused and this allegedly angered the don who then started blackmailing the singer. In his written statement, Sonu refers to a certain Bharat Jothwani as Chhota Shakeel's front man in New Jersey, with whom Chhota Shakeel wanted Sonu to work with. When asked to comment on the same, Sonu tactfully evaded this query from the media and said that everyone will get to know who he works with when he performs in America. Now all this makes one wonder about the real reason behind Sonu's reluctance to file a police complaint. When asked again specifically about filing an FIR, Sonu mentioned that he will see what needs to be done. The question to be asked is what's stopping Sonu from involving the police. Is he scared? Is he apprehensive that any involvement of the police will irk the don further? Or is there something more to this entire drama than what actually meets the naked eye? Only time will tell. It remains to be seen what action the police will take post Sonu's written statement about underworld threats.
