Saturday and Sunday saw Whistling Woods organising 'Celebrate Cinema', a two-day extravaganza that was aimed to explore and exploit the growth of Indian cinema. While the first day did see an overwhelming response, Day 2 started with the launch of ‘Lights.. Camera …. Action’, a book on 39 legendary film directors of Hindi Cinema from V. Shantaram to Subhash Ghai written by veteran journalist and film critic Ashok Ujlambkar.
The author has taken brief survey of Hindi film directors like Kedar Sharma, Bimal Roy, Raj Kapoor, Guru Dutt, K.Asif, Raj Khosla and many others in this unique and first-of-its-kind book.
Extolling the finer aspects of the book, filmmaker Subhash Ghai said, “It is an honour for me to be a part of this book alongside veterans who have been my idols. This book is like an award to me. I would like to congratulate him for writing such a beautiful and informative group which has documented the story of all the entertainers and directors for the benefit of future generations."
Listening to excerpts from the book about himself and his journey, Subhash Ghai got emotional and shared the story of his thought behind making Whistling Woods International and the controversy that he has been embroiled in.
“Maharashtra gave me education, my wife and my career. I owe a lot to this state. I am trying to give back what I have gained through Whistling Woods International which is shaping the future of tomorrow’s filmmakers. I hope the government and Supreme Court recognizes my vision and intention and does justice. This school is the result of my complete life’s savings and a contribution towards the country’s education system,” Ghai added.
Speaking about his book, author Ashok Ujlambkar said, “It is a moment of pride for me to get my book launched by the hands of Subhash Ghai. The only showman of the film industry after Raj Kapoor is Subhash Ghai. He has not just an entertainer but a visionary."
We are sure this book featuring India's top directors would be an unputdownable read.
