MUMBAI: The Sushant Singh Rajput case is one of the most sensational and talked about cases in the country. Even though three agencies are investigating the case, there still hasn’t been any lead.
Along with the CBI, the ED also stepped into the investigation, and while interrogating Rhea and her brother Showik, they brought the drug angle into the case. Thus, the NCB joined the probe.
A few months ago, Rhea and her brother were arrested along with SSR’s ex-manager Samuel Miranda for procuring and consuming drugs. Rhea is out on bail but her brother Showik continues to stay in the jail.
SSR’S staff member Dipesh Sawant was also called for questioning and, as per media reports, detained by the NCB officials.
Dipesh had recently filed a case against the NCB officials, claiming that they had illegally detained him. He filed a written petition at the Bombay High Court against the agency.
He also asked for a compensation of Rs 10 lakh while alleging illegal detention on the part of the NCB officials in the drugs case. He reportedly filed this petition on October 5, 2020.

But the agency has denied the allegations. Sameer Wankhede, Zonal Director, NCB, said that no incriminating evidence was found at Sawant’s residence during the search. Moreover, he added that they served the summons to the househelp after conducting the punchnama.
Dipesh had to be present before the NCB officials on September 4, 2020. Sameer stated that it was Dipesh who himself wished to come along with the officers to the NCB office at night, giving the reason that he would have difficulty in tracing it later.
In the 34-pager affidavit submitted, the NCB stated that Dipesh went with the officers in the presence of his family members (his mother and brother) and he looked exhausted and sleep-deprived. He also agreed to come the next day but then changed his mind as he wouldn’t get any mode of transport.
The NCB officials are saying that Dipesh requested the officials to permit him to stay at the office at night so that he could continue his statement the other day. Dipesh stayed on his own will and was provided breakfast and other facilities by the officials.
The bench of judges SS Shinde and MS Karnik have listened to the arguments put forward by both the parties. However, they have observed that it will be impossible to adjudicate the issue unless an independent officer or body conducts an inquiry on Sawant’s allegations.
However, Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh, who appeared on behalf of the central agency, opposed the same. The next hearing of the case will happen on December 4, 2020.
