MUMBAI: Sushant Singh Rajput’s sudden demise left the nation in a state of shock. The actor died by suicide on 14 June 2020, and his sudden demise triggered conversations and debates about nepotism, bullying and power play in Bollywood. There were also reports of the late actor being replaced in quite a few movies by other actors. However, in an old interview, Sushant had once cleared the air about the speculations of Ranveer Singh replacing him in Befikre. He had revealed that even if the film was offered to him, he wouldn’t have done it anyway.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Sushant had said, “Let me clear it once and for all. I was never offered Befikre. But had I been offered, I wouldn’t have done it. I know it’s easier to decide after the results are out but I have a reason. If the same production house is offering me a niche film like Detective Byomkesh Bakshy (2015), I would do it because Dibakar Banerjee (director) has a different interpretation of the old classic; and I would do a Paani where Shekhar Kapur (film-maker) will be raising a very important and immediate issue…”
Sushant Singh Rajput had further opened up about his alleged rivalry with Ranveer Singh that was being reported back then. He had said that it was probably because they were both about the same age and possibly because he had opted out of the old management, while Ranveer did otherwise, and so comparisons could be drawn.
