Tabu on playing an older character in her films; says, ‘ Using de-aging technology on actors can look gimmicky’

MUMBAI : Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, Tabu's second release of 2024, has her all geared up. The actress wowed everyone in March of this year with her incredible performance in Crew. Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kriti Sanon also feature in the movie. The actress co-stars with Ajay Devgn in AMKDT. Under Neeraj Pandey's direction, Tabu and Ajay's younger selves are portrayed by actors Shantanu Maheshwari and Saiee Manjrekar.

As an actor, Tabu has never been afraid to take chances and portray people in her age range. Thus, rather than being de-aged in Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, the actress expressed her gratitude to the filmmakers for using younger performers. The Andhadhun actress stated in an interview that she dislikes portraying younger roles or de-aging.

When Neeraj Pandey told Tabu that Shantanu and Saiee would play the younger roles, she was relieved. According to the actress, de-aging technology on performers can occasionally look gimmicky, particularly if the audience is aware of the actors' advanced age. Although the public has seen the actors' most recent parts, Tabu said that the appropriateness of using older actors in younger roles varies depending on the kind of film and its setting. For Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, it was more successful to cast performers whose ages matched their roles, however occasionally such casting can work without upsetting viewers.

Additionally, Tabu mentioned that younger actors were frequently cast to play the younger versions of the heroes in the past. We will see Dharmendra or Dilip Kumar portray the adult version of the character after it grows up. Tabu stated in the same interview that she is done playing thirty-year-olds in motion pictures. All she can do is accept her advanced age.

Auron Mein Kahaan Dum Tha, meanwhile, signifies Tabu and Ajay Devgn's fifteenth partnership. In the past, the pair appeared together on screen in films such Drishyam, Golmaal Again, De De Pyaar De, Vijaypath, Haqeeqat, and Drishyam 2. The movie AMKDT opens in theaters on August 2, 2024. The American science fiction series Dune: Prophecy, a precursor to Denis Villeneuve's Dune films, is the actress's next project.
