MUMBAI: Actor Mohit Daga, who will soon be seen in the Anupam Kher-starrer Tumko Meri Kasam, recently shared his thoughts on World Theatre Day, emphasizing the significance of theatre in an actor’s journey. Extending his wishes to the entertainment fraternity and audiences, Mohit reflected on his long-standing desire to be part of theatre. "I have always wanted to do theatre, but whenever I approached Om Katare Ji, I ended up getting a show instead. I even witnessed a rehearsal once, and that experience alone taught me so much that I still apply in my craft today," he shared. The actor, known for his work in television and films, credited noted cinematographer and director Gyan Sahay for exposing him to the world of theatre. "Gyan Sahay Ji sent me to watch the rehearsal of a play by Makrand Deshpande Sir. That single rehearsal was an eye-opener, making me realize how much I could enhance my skills through theatre. Unfortunately, I never got the opportunity to join a theatre group, but the essence of theatre has always been alive within me. Whenever I get the chance, I will definitely do theatre—no matter what," he said passionately. Addressing the ongoing challenges faced by theatre artists, Mohit acknowledged that budget constraints often pose a hurdle. "Someone once told me, ‘You’ve already worked extensively in television, so why do you want to do theatre? There’s no money in it.’ My response was simple: ‘I want to refine my craft.’ Theatre is the best medium for that," he asserted. He also highlighted the evolution of theatre, especially with the rise of grand musical productions. "With spectacular plays like Ram featuring Ashutosh Rana, Mahabharat, and Ramayan, theatre is evolving. Puneet Ji’s team has delivered remarkable productions, and platforms like Jio World Centre have amplified the reach of theatrical performances. Theatre is transforming, and I believe a revolution is on its way." Despite his busy schedule with films and web series, Mohit expressed his eagerness to return to theatre. "Now that I have some free time, I definitely want to watch some good plays and, someday, be part of one myself." Concluding his heartfelt message, Mohit reiterated his unwavering belief in the art form: "Theatre was, is, and will always remain alive."
