Fugly raised the pertinent issue of setting up open enquiry commissions in our country. Through its actors, Fugly showcased the pressing need of recording enquiries on camera and making it available to the general public so that the corrupt lies exposed. The movie even inspired a viewer recently to write an open letter to the Prime Minister demanding open commissions to be set up.
Director Kabir Sadanand sounded extremely elated at this development. Speaking to Tellychakkar.com, Kabir said, “The intention with which the movie was made is effectively reaching out to people. We wanted to put out this cause and the fact that someone has written an open letter to the PM asking why no open commissions are present in our country makes me believe that our cause is reaching out to the masses.”
Kabir’s intention behind making a cause based movie was to create an awakening. “There is a lot of resentment in the country. And that was evidently from the recent change in our governance which took place. Through my movie, even if a small awakening happens in people’s minds, then I would be very happy and consider that the aim behind making this movie has been fulfilled,” said Kabir.
Fugly has fared extremely well in the northern belts. “Theaters up in North are running up to 80% occupancy. It has been extremely well- received there. Normally after Sunday, there is a dip but that has not been the case with Fugly,” asserted Kabir.
While Fugly continues to enthrall masses, critics were left far from impressed with the movie and rated it as average. When asked about it, Kabir said, “There are critics who have liked it too. Those who haven’t liked it, well I am not unhappy about it. Everyone has an opinion. And box-office figures say a different story.”
Kabir is now gearing up for his next release, Golu Aur Pappu, which will release after three months from now. We wish him luck!!!
