MUMBAI : Shah Rukh Khan acting debut with Colonel Raj Kapoor’s television series, ‘Fauji’ in 1988, and since then there was no looking back for the superstar. The late director had opened up about working with Shah Rukh Khan in a throwback interview.
Talking about meeting SRK for the first time, he reportedly said that he was looking for commandos and SRK turned up at his office. He also added that Shah Rukh had assured him that he will do the role of the commando really well.
Although he was not chosen for the lead role at first, he eventually ended up being the star of the show. According to the director, the camera loved him. Revealing that Shah Rukh was always late for the shoot, Colonel Kapoor reminisced the time when he ran after him with a stone and that according to him put an end to his punctuality ills.

Talking about how he prepped up the actors and other actors for the challenging role of an army man, he reportedly said that he took those guys for a run. He added that he was pleasantly surprised that Shah Rukh Khan hung on but half the people left and didn’t come back from the run.
Unfortunately, Colonel Raj Kapoor passed away two years ago and Shah Rukh Khan had penned a tribute to the late director. He wrote, "He loved me so much. Encouraged me. And today if I am used to being mollycoddled on sets it’s because of this man who made a ‘Fauji’ out of a boy, like his own. Will miss you Sir...always. May u find peace in ur new mission."
