Remembering Nirbhaya: TV Celebs Express Their Feelings

Remembering Nirbhaya: TV Celebs Express Their Feelings

It’s been two years of the infamous Delhi Gang Rape case or the Nirbhaya incident, where a twenty three year old girl was brutally raped and abused in a public bus by six men. Though all the offenders were caught and booked, the shameless incident remains one of the most horrific acts ever in the history of abuse against women.

Our television stars spoke to us about the shameful and brutal incident and shared their concerns about the safety of the women.

Juhi Parmar- It’s such a shame for our country. Rape is a serious offence against a woman’s dignity where you are almost killing her by harming her pride and honour, even if she is alive. The decision on the Government’s part should have been quick and definitely capital punishment is the only punishment what the offenders deserve. And the instant and strict punishment will be the only safety measure for women.

Keerti Nagpure- I think as a responsible citizen of the country we should do something. Soon after the incident took place lots of protest movement and candle light march were organized in various parts of the country. Then gradually it died down. Now, I think this is again the time when we should start protesting again and demand for the justice. And I am not of the opinion that the Government has provided us with enough security and safety but we also tend to not follow the simple instructions given by them like noting down the numbers of the cab or auto or such measures.

Gaurav Chaudhury- It is really unfortunate that the legal proceedings are taking too much time. According to me certain aspects of the judiciary system should be revamped. In this particular case there was one juvenile offender, who received minimum punishment according to our legal provision. This should be changed. The mindset of the people should be changed, where boys will be taught to respect women and not the other way round.

Aditya Redij- It is shameful on our part that it took so long to punish the abusers. Verdicts should be passed fast enough for such cases. After all it’s the victim’s family who are going through a painful life. I think Akshay Kumar’s initiative for training women for self-defense was excellent and women in our society should be adequately trained.

Indira Krishnan- It’s a horrible incident that nothing has been done yet. The most shameful thing is that it is still continuing and nothing has been changed in these two years. I think if the decision on Nirbhaya case had been fast enough then the scenario would have changed.

Aastha Chaudhury- I personally feel that for all these cases fast track court is necessary, the entire system should have been changed. Many new issues came up in these two years and somewhere people forgot about this case. I think there are lots of laws but those should not only be on papers and rather should be implemented properly.

Sandeep Rajora- It is a very disgraceful act and justice should prevail. It is very important to get into the exact situation and different strict measures should be taken on the part of the Government to control such act.

Amit Dolawat- Though the entire process of verdict has been delayed; I have complete faith in the judicial system of the country. Recently I was in Delhi and saw a gang of Auto driver standing near the station and it was difficult even for guys to pass from that area so, just imagine about the girls. However, things have changed in the last two years and people have become more aware and alert and crime rate has come down. I am confident that things will get better with passing time.

We just hope that the victim’s family gets justice and her soul rests in peace.
