One cannot survive in this industry only on talent: Nitesh Singh

Nitesh Singh

Hailing from Banaras, a young guy Nitesh Singh came to Mumbai years back to become a successful director. After spending almost a decade in the industry and trying out his hand in almost every genre, Nitesh is currently busy directing a popular episodic Laut Aao Trisha. To know more about this man, read on.

How did you start your career in this industry?

I was very much clear in my mind that I wanted to become a director, hence I came to Mumbai for the same. I started my career with films and then gradually moved on to television. My first show as an independent film maker was Dharti Ka Veer Yodha Prithviraj Chauhan. Then on, I have directed many shows like Dharam Veer, Jai Shri Krishna, Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani, Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil, Saraswatichandra and many others.

What is the responsibility of a director in television?

I believe director is a complete package, who needs to have the sound knowledge of everything from technical matters to scripting. Director is the captain of the ship. But, honestly speaking in television industry it is difficult to do so, as we have experts in different fields and the director is only there for execution of the entire project. There is no freedom for a director in television.

Have you faced many problems in this industry?

Yes, as a newcomer I faced many difficulties and honestly speaking the scenario is not very smooth here. Only talent cannot make you survive in this industry rather you need to have good PR skills as well. Unfortunately I am not good at that but fortunately enough I have been able to do some good shows.

Do you think television is gradually changing?

Well, now everyone is making an attempt to change the scenario in television with different type of series, which is welcoming. Even four years back no one was ready for this experiment but now the makers are open to it. But, I don’t think that audience are fully ready for it, they will need some more time to accept the change and it will happen with time.

Who all are your inspirations?

It is very difficult for to point out as I have learnt a lot of things from many people. And I believe that everyone have certain qualities which we can learn from others. In that way everyone is inspiring. Having said that I would like to mention that people like Basu Chatterjee, Satyajit Ray and Rajkumar Santoshi has inspired me.

What are your future plans?

I have always kept an eye on films, for, me television is a medium of winning bread and butter. I am working on a script of my own and the talks are on with few people. If it works out then it will be good or else I will continue with television.
