He has been described in more ways than one, but the 'boneless wonder' seems to suit him the best. Prabhu Deva is a name that is synonymous with a form of dance that leaves audiences gaping and breathless with sheer wonder. Now, telly viewers will see more of Prabhu on screen with a dance based show, Kaboom on Star Plus, starting 27 August.
"I love to dance, and frankly, I was so bad as a student that I would have ended up being a peon. So it is good that I am doing something that I am really interested in. It's something that has come to me naturally, I learnt Bharatnatyam at a very early age and that has helped in my choreography," says Prabhu Deva, who devotes five days a month to the show.
Kaboom is a dance competition that will be hosted by Naved Jafri and Amit Behl who started the trend setting, Boogie Woogie and Javed Jafri and Prabhu Deva will be the show's permanent guests. Many celebrity judges will also be brought in to add to the glam factor. Sridevi will be the guest of honour in the final episode of the show.
"This competition is purely about dance and its technicalities. It is not about how one looks, but about how one performs," says Javed, pointing out that only 10 marks have been allotted to costume, while the other categories each have 20 points.
Prabhu Deva seemed relaxed on the sets of the show, as he was around his dear friends, Ravi, Naved and Javed. A man of few words, he answered the questions of the scribes present in monosyllables or max in one sentence!
