Writer Sumrit Shahi took up to writing, on pretty much an impulse, and his debut work ‘Just Friends’ which he wrote at the tender age of 17 went on to become a best seller. And one fine day, he got a call from Beyond Dreams Entertainment to write for their youth-based show, Sadda Haq.
There’s been no looking back for the man since then… He’s been writing for Yash Patnaik’s shows Sadda Haq, Million Dollar Girl and Ek Veer Ki Ardaas – Veera.
And now, he is at the outset of launching his new book titled ‘Never Kiss your Best Friend’…
Talking about his new book, Sumrit told Tellychakkar.com, “In the age of love stories, ‘Never Kiss your Best Friend’ is a story that celebrates friendship. And that’s what makes it special. It’s a young story of two best friends – a boy and a girl and how they navigate through life and its experiences – from sixteen to twenty five. It’s a coming of age story, that most of us will connect to.”
The author of ‘Just Friends’, ‘A lot like Love…a l’il like chocolate’, and now this new book, Samrit loved telling imaginatory stories and cooking up lies even as a kid. Over the time, he has realized that writing is what gives him happiness, and that he had to somehow keep himself associated with writing.
He stated, “TV shows have been a blessing in disguise. I started writing Sadda Haq at the age of 20. Writing for TV has helped me in characterisation and building on emotions, which is essential while writing relationship stories, which happen to be the genre I like the most. I have to thank Yash Patnaik for this; he’s not a producer for me, he’s been a mentor, friend and guardian for me in Mumbai.”
On his goals ahead, the writer averred, “I want to write more books, more TV shows and of course a movie too.”
Coming back to his book to-be-launched, he assured his readers, “It is my promise, that you will be compelled to pick your phone and call your best friend after reading this story.”
The launch of “Never Kiss your Best Friend is scheduled to happen on 29 May, at Crosswords Book Store, Inorbit Mall, Malad West. The celebrities called in to launch the book will be our own Param and Harshita, the lead faces of Sadda Haq.
Best of luck, boy!!
