Actor Daya Shankar Pandey, who plays Bilasi in Shashi-Sumeet Productions’ popular &TV show Badii Devrani, is impressing viewers with his negative character. The film and theatre actor was also seen in films like Lagaan, Gangaajal, Swades and Rajneeti. In conversation with Tellychakkar.com, he spoke about his role and more.
You have been tagged as a prankster on the sets, what do you have to say about it?
Oh, really? Well, we enjoy pulling each other’s legs. I don’t play any physical prank! We all are dramebaaz and do a lot of masti on the sets.
Your character has a grey shade, have you received any negative comments from viewers?
My role is negative, but in a different way. I am not playing a typical villain, but a cunning one. I am enjoying this as it’s something different than what I have done till now. My show Shanidev’s fans don’t believe that I am the same person who was playing the titular role. People are shocked to see my negative streak in Badii Devrani. Fans have accepted me as a comedian, god, and a positive person, but yet to accept me as a villain.
After comedy and negative role, what’s next?
I am keen to do an emotional role. A character that is similar to Rajesh Khanna’s in Anand. I am inspired by the movie and I have watched it more than 20 times and still enjoy it.
Now that you have worked for TV and Bollywood, tell us which is more difficult?
I would say TV, as there are a lot of scenes and with different actors so that becomes hectic. In a day, you have to shoot for 12 hours or more! Whereas Bollywood movies have a different scenario, once a movie is completed, you move onto another project.
Do you guide your young co-stars?
I like Mudit Nayar as an actor. I have seen him doing scenes and he is very hard working. I do guide my co- actors if I think they need to be guided. Well, we have a talented bunch of actors so I don’t really get the chance to guide them (laughs).
Great going, Daya Shankar!
