MUMBAI: Actress Sneha Jain, who was recently seen as Mukta in Megha Barsenge and as Gehna in Saath Nibhana Saathiya 2, attended a cleanliness drive at Juhu beach. The actress says that she has always felt very strongly about these issues, and wants to do her bit for mother nature.
“The main reason was understanding that protecting nature is not just a duty, it’s a part of who we are as humans. We are a part of nature, and it’s our responsibility to keep a balance. If we are taking things from nature, then we must also give something back. It’s a two-way transaction,” she says.
She adds, “But sadly, we humans mostly just take and forget to give. We want fresh air, clean water, sunlight, fruits, and beauty all from nature. But in return, we don’t give anything. The truth is, nature doesn’t even demand much from us. It just wants us to keep it clean, not pollute it, so that it can continue giving us beautiful and fresh things.”
She says that she always wanted to do a clean-up drive. “This clean-up drive was something I always wanted to do, and I finally did it for the first time. And honestly, it gave me so much peace and lightness inside. I felt like I did something truly good not just for nature, but for my mother. Because yes, we call it Mother Earth, right? She loves us unconditionally and gives us everything. So why can’t we show her just a little love and care in return?” she says.
The actress says that watching youngsters also take part was a welcome treat. “What really touched my heart was seeing young college students waking up at 6:30 AM during their vacation time, traveling all the way from Navi Mumbai to join the beach clean-up. That shows real passion and concern for nature and our coming generations. If we don’t act now, things will get worse. We are already seeing the effects of climate change, extreme heat, wrong weather at the wrong time, and less rainfall. Nature is trying to tell us something: ‘I’m upset.’,” she says,
She adds, “So now, it’s time for us to tell nature, “Don’t worry. We are here to take care of you.” Nature doesn’t need our money or luxury, just our love, care, and sensitivity.”
Emphasising on the importance of a clean earth, she says, “Think about it: we humans are so particular about keeping our own homes and bodies clean. But we live in nature. We breathe its air, eat its fruits, enjoy its beauty. What if nature one day decides, “I won’t give you oxygen anymore”? Or “I won’t grow fruits”? What will we do then?”
She adds, “If people can experience what it feels like to not care for their body for just 2-3 days, eat junk, breathe dirty air, and not sleep well, they'll understand how important care is. The same goes for nature. We must treat it with love and respect, just like we do for ourselves. Governments are trying, rules are being made, dustbins are placed, awareness drives are happening. It’s not just for show. It’s all meant to help us to help the planet. So let’s not ignore it.”
She hopes to continue doing as much as she can to raise awareness. “I honestly feel sad that even after so much education and intelligence, people fail to understand and follow such a basic, simple truth. That’s why I’ve decided that I will keep doing this kind of work. It’s my duty, my responsibility. I will always try to motivate others, but first and foremost, I will fulfill my duty towards nature,” she says.
