#JanmashtamiSpecial: TV celebs share their memories

It is time to celebrate the most loved God Krishna’s birth.

Janmashtami is here and it is time to relish the sweet delights and of course remember Kanhaiya and his naughty childhood days.

TV celebs too go on a memory lane and share their memories and connection with Krishna...

Gaurav Sharma

I used to love eating pakodas during Janmashtami and once even burnt my hands trying to steal them while my mom was preparing them. I always used to play Krishna in my school in annual functions. I love Krishna and we celebrate the festival with full aplomb. We make panjeeri, dahi wada and modak and visit the Krishna temple for darshan and jhanki. In Mumbai also I go to Iskon temple to celebrate the occasion.

Sanjay Gagnani

I don't follow any special ritual on Janmashtami since I am away from my family but whenever I am with them, we bring in the festival together by visiting the Lord Krishna temple at 12am. One of my school teachers, Miss Pakeezah always used to call me 'kanhaiya' as she always saw me surrounded by girls in school. On Janmashtami, I try to have as much makhan as I can along with aloo paratha's since I am a huge foodie.

Rishma Rochlani

I used to love butter as a child, I still do. Like Krishna, even I would jump and climb up high territories at home to get my hands on the butter. My mom used to get so mad at me and didn’t know where to hide it. Now I have stopped eating a lot of butter as it is not good for our health.

Ankit Gera

I was very notorious and stubborn kid in my childhood. I used to steal food from kitchen and eat it up. As a kid it was always fun being the part of Janamashtami as we use to watch the whole ‘dahi-handi’ the moment it use to start till the end. Earlier my friends and I used to even bet on how many times the pyramid guys will fall or not just for fun.

Ravish Desai

Janamashtami is one of the most important festivals for me primarily because I am a ‘vaishnav’ and we are Krishna lovers. My colony use to celebrate dahi-handi on a larger scale. I use to get inspire during dahi handi and me and my friends used to fill balloons with water and then used to try to climb up and form a pyramid and use to burst the balloon and then we all used start dance and sing ‘Govinda aala re aala’.

Jaswir Kaur

I really enjoy watching dahi handi. I used to throw water on them; I miss these things now and thus it's not that beautiful anymore. Even I have played Krishna in one of my dance reality shows in Kolkata.

Himanshu Soni

Janamashthami was the only festival which I used to enjoy at home. Earlier during childhood, I remember I used to watch dahi-handi from my home and feast on the delicious food my mom use to prepare on that day. I use to take maximum benefit of this day as we used to get a holiday.

Punit Pathak

As a kid, I remember once we had celebrated Janmashtami in the school and I dressed up as Lord Krishna for it and while coming back from school, I looked so similar to Krishna ji that in my area they made me climb and break the Handi. I still remember that year. This year, I have captured the beauty of Lord Krishna’s mischievous spirit in a Hip Hop interpretation performed beautifully by Pankaj from my team. I look forward to a great response from the audience for the act which will be telecasted on Janmashtami.”

Ravi Dubey

Lord Krishna’s teachings and personality can easily be connected with this era. The principles of Krishna are so believable and you can relate to him even though he is a mythological figure. Various episodes of Krishna’s life offer us so much to learn from. Krishna teaches me to be extremely pragmatic rather than having faith in the abstract and to believe in every aspect of karma.  Every year we generally go to my friends place, and then my wife and I go to the Iskcon temple. We will follow the same thing this year as well and will also donate some things and food to the needy.
