A lot of actors refrain from doing negative roles; however, there are others who like trying out new stuff. Sushil Bounthiyal, last seen in Colors’ Phulwa as Mangru, little Phulwa’s (Jannat Zubair Rahmani’s) father and probably the first actor to cry on Indian television, belongs to this breed. Incidentally, Sushil, who will be seen as a corrupt cop in Playtime Creation’s next Ruk Jaana Nahi Tu Kahi Haar Ke on Star Plus, was approached by certain renowned production houses post Phulwa, to play father to the female leads, which he declined.
Sushil says, “I want to do something different. I have done comedy in the past and after Phulwa, I was looking out for negative roles.” And the actor justifies his stance, “If you look at the history of negative roles, they have always been more complex hence, an actor gets to explore more. These characters have more shades and they are emotionally challenging and versatile. Therefore actors all around the world like negative characters more than the positive ones.”
Of the current shows on air, Sushil loves the character of Sajjan Singh played by Anupam Shyam in Star Plus’ Mann Kee Awaaz Pratigya.
Ruk Jaana Nahi Tu Kahi Haar Ke - the show which he has signed on for - is based on college politics and other issues faced by the youth of the country. The setting is based in North India and Aniruddh Dave and Pooja Sharma are the lead actors in the show.
Hopefully, for him, the TV drama will give him the right platform to experiment and explore the various shade of negativity in his character. Go for it Sushil!
