Netflix, the content streaming platform worldwide, has picked up a brand new Indian- American show Brown Nation. Directed by Abi Varghese, an established television and film writer of Malayali origin, Brown Nation is an entertaining, slice of life series focused on life a struggling small IT business owner in New York.  The series is created and written by Matt Grubb, George Kanatt & Abi Varghese.

Well versed with popular online content and formats, the creators of Brown Nation, were first recognized for their short films- showcased at Cannes, the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles and several others. Varghese is best known for directing a popular sitcom in the Malayalam that aired on Kairali TV for three years titled Akkara Kazhchakal. Considered the first true Malayalam sitcom drawn from real life humor, it has over 43 million views online.  Brown Nation is Executive Produced by Prakash Bare, Naveen Chathappuram, & Charles Leslie.  Their prior productions include many critically acclaimed projects in Malayalam, Marathi and for the US Market which have been featured in reputed international festivals like Berlinale, Montreal and BFI, winning more than 15 regional film awards.

As shows focused on typical Indian American issues like 'Master of None' gain popularity, the concept of Brown Nation holds significant promise. The show is about a dysfunctional IT company and its world-weary owner.  With a tough to please artist wife who has her own First World problems at home, life isn't a joyride for the boss or his employees. The show incorporates entertainment as it happens in urban lives with touches of sarcasm and irony. Their everyday work struggles and life in New York makes for many humorous situations.

With established Indian origin talent like Rajeev Varma, Omi Vaidya, Shenaz Treasurywala and Melanie Chandra top lining the cast, Brown Nation promises to deliver a slice of typical Indian life with ironies intact. Varghese said,  "We have tried to develop universally appealing humor by using situations of a quirky business owner working to make it in the competitive world of New York. With diversity of talent and stories making impact, this series holds potential to reach out to multiple audiences. Netflix is the best platform that we could have asked for to maximize its reach.”

The Brown Nation - Netflix deal was facilitated by Datta Dave from Tulsea, India’s premiere talent representation agency for emerging and top writers, directors, and production companies.
