There are times when actors behave very unprofessionally: Casting Director Rishika Chauhan

Being a casting director is not an easy task. It requires immense hardwork and dedication. Having been in Mumbai from the past three years, Rishika Chauhan wanted to become an actor but got inclined towards casting as it was a new field and she wanted to learn new things.

Earlier, Rishika has cast for TV shows in the likes of Mere Angne Mein, Chandranandini, and Gangaa. She has also cast for some commercials and web shows.

In an interview, Rishika said, “I am a creative person and I really don't feel that you can do just one thing passionately. I wanted to learn something new that's why chose casting. Casting gives me a sense of understanding different characters, knowing about production, and much more. God has been really kind to me; I have never faced any kind of difficulties to reach here. I was happy doing acting than casting but as I have mentioned I am the kind of person who always wanted to learn something new and that I got to learn with casting.”

When asked about the challenges she faces in her profession, she shared, “There are many challenges, and I feel the most challenging part of casting is that we are required to work any time. Even if I am sleeping at 2am and the call comes from the production house, we have to work. According to the production house and budget, we have to provide good actors who really fit the character.”

“Casting work can come any time but there are benefits of working as a freelancer.  You can manage both your personal and professional time together, and that's the reason I would love to do freelance casting instead of sitting in a production house. In this profession, I don't feel there is anything wrong in asking work or character related questions to actors. Mostly actors have been professional with me, but there are also a few who sometimes behave unprofessionally.  Of course, we have to face tantrums also, but it's there loss not mine because there are many actors who are more professional about their work,” she added.

When quizzed about the aspirations she has, Rishika said, “A person wants to grow in his/her profession. I too want to see myself doing well in casting. I have plans to have my own production company. It may take some time but that has always been my dream, and I hope to accomplish my dream.”

Way to go, Rishika!
