MUMBAI: The Indian entertainment industry continues to mourn the untimely passing of actress and model Shefali Jariwala, whose sudden demise earlier this week has left fans and colleagues in a state of shock.

The 42-year-old, best remembered for her iconic appearance in the music video Kaanta Laga, reportedly passed away on Tuesday night, with initial speculation pointing to cardiac arrest. However, official confirmation regarding the cause of death is still awaited, as investigations remain ongoing.

Shefali’s funeral was held earlier today, with close friends and family gathering to bid a heartfelt farewell. Among those present was her Bigg Boss 13 co-contestant and close friend Paras Chhabra, who joined mourners in paying their final respects.

However, what should have been a sombre and respectful occasion quickly became clouded by controversy, as sections of the media came under fire for their coverage surrounding Shefali’s husband, Parag Tyagi.

A clip surfaced showing Parag walking his pet dog shortly after his wife’s passing, which some outlets chose to highlight in a manner that implied emotional detachment or insensitivity. This portrayal did not sit well with Paras Chhabra, who voiced his anger at what he called a gross misrepresentation.

Speaking candidly to the media at the funeral, Paras lashed out, stating,“This morning’s report was in extremely poor taste. That ‘dog-walking’ story — what was the man supposed to do? You’ve turned something so ordinary into a narrative of insensitivity. These are the kinds of negative stories you bring out. What is there to even say?”

When a journalist responded with, “We’re just doing our job,” Paras shot back,“Yes, but you’re choosing to spread negativity.”

His remarks have sparked discussion online, with many echoing his sentiment and urging media outlets to exercise greater sensitivity during times of personal tragedy.

Indeed, moments of grief call for compassion, and the spotlight must be handled with care. As loved ones continue to process this tremendous loss, the hope remains that dignity and empathy will be prioritised over sensationalism.
