I have not done anything illegal, avers Giaa Maanek

Giaa Maanek
Now, has Giaa Maanek got herself into some kind of a mess? The beautiful girl who plays Gopi in Star Plus’ Saath Nibhana Saathiya was spotted at a pub last night (4 April 2012). So what’s the big deal if she went to a pub? But there’s more to the story. The pub was serving hookah – which is banned – and police raided the place. Media reports claimed that Giaa too was found consuming hookah and was also in an inebriated state. But, as they say, the absolute truth is always somewhere else. “Yes, I was there at the pub, but I did not do anything illegal,” clarifies Giaa to Tellychakkar.com. Then she goes on to give a lowdown of the evening that led to such a ruckus. “My best friend came to see me and we decided to have some nice time together. My mom too decided to join us. We three first went to 5 Spice, Malad, and had an early dinner. After that we shopped at a mall and planned to go on a long drive till Bandra. Once in Bandra, we got a little hungry, and thought of eating starters. So, we entered the pub. It was a decent place and we realised that they serve hookahs and liquor as well, along with food. But we ordered only paneer chilly and cold drink. By the time the bill arrived, police raided the place. They told us not move out till the interrogation gets over. So we waited for a while, but later I showed them the bill stating that we did not consume anything which is illegal. The cops understood it and allowed us to go. But by the time I reached down I saw the media standing. I covered my face to avoid the situation but they recognized my mom. And that’s it, they made a big news out of it,” shares Giaa. She is not disappointed at all with the way the media has treated her. “I am not shocked. It’s their work. But they should understand that I was with my mom and I would never do anything wrong or illegal with my parents around.” Furthermore, she wants people to understand that she has a life beyond Gopi. “I can’t be in a saree all the time. After pack-up, I get into a one-piece dress and go to a restaurant and pub. I have all the right to do that as I am also a normal girl who loves to have fun. 90 percent of people around are hypocrites. They will say, ‘Oh my God, Giaa is having hookah,’ and in the night they will go ahead and do the same.” However, she is thankful to her channel and production house (Sunrise Telefilms) for supporting her all through the “drama”. “They know me how I am. I am not what is being shown in news channels.” Finally, she ends with the suggestion for the cops, “Why are they harrowing people who have hookahs? They should also ban cigarette smoking as it is more rampant and harmful.” Well, Giaa, when you are a star, you will make news. It’s the part and parcel of a celeb’s life!!!
