MUMBAI: In the aftermath of a devastating terror attack in the scenic yet fragile region of Jammu and Kashmir, the nation has been left reeling once more. The attack, which unfolded earlier this week in Pahalgam, tragically claimed the lives of 26 tourists all but one being Indian nationals.
As sorrow and anger sweep across the country and beyond, questions about the future of cross-border relations, as well as the role of culture and sport amidst conflict, have resurfaced.
In an exclusive conversation with TellyChakkar, acclaimed actress Helly Shah known for her stellar performances in Swaragini, Ishq Mein Marjawan 2, and the OTT hit Gullak spoke candidly about the tragedy, its wider implications, and her views on the actions needed in response.
Helly, the nation is heartbroken after the recent events in Pahalgam. What was your initial reaction upon hearing the news?
It was absolutely heart-breaking. Just when we all started believing that Kashmir was healing, tourism was booming again, people were celebrating a return to normalcy such a horrific incident shatters that hope. It feels like we are back to square one, and it is deeply saddening. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. It’s unimaginable what they must be going through.
Many are calling for strong action. In your opinion, how should the government respond to such acts of terror?
I believe our country cannot and should not tolerate such atrocities. There must be a strong, decisive response. Those responsible should face the harshest punishments possible. It’s not just about reacting to this one incident it’s about preventing future tragedies. It’s high time we took strict and effective measures. The people of Kashmir deserve peace. They have suffered for far too long, caught between violence and fear.
Helly’s impassioned words mirror the sentiments of millions across the nation, who are demanding justice, accountability, and meaningful change.
Meanwhile, investigations into the attack are ongoing, with growing calls for authorities to not only capture the perpetrators but also dismantle the networks that enable such barbarity.
The international community watches closely, unified in grief and solidarity with India, urging swift justice for the victims of this heinous attack.
