Hussain Kuwajerwala has been keeping busy with the one of its kind Bollywood musical, Zangoora – The Gypsy Prince, produced by Wizcraft for nearly two years now. The play has been seeing packed houses ever since its start, and here is Hussain talking about his life on the stage and much more to Tellychakkar.com. “Every day is a new audience and performing live takes me to a new high altogether. Being a part of this play, I had to put in a lot of hard work, dedication and commitment. And today, I can say that all of it has paid off, and this phase of life has been very satisfying. Kingdom of Dreams Auditorium in Gurgaon, that houses this play, has a spectacular look in itself, and the play is a visual treat for the viewers. The kind of support systems deployed at the auditorium for the harness act, trapeze act, etc, cannot be created in any other auditorium”, shares Hussain. Talking about his busy schedule, the actor states, “Earlier I used to be part of six shows out of the eight shows conducted in a week. Now I am part of the two weekend shows only. I keep travelling between Mumbai and Delhi, and I must say. Tina, my wife has been very supportive in this phase. Initially I went through a five months training phase which was very difficult. The process of learning was very tiring and after a day’s physical activities, we would all drop dead. But after going through the rehearsal sessions, I got fitter.” On the dance forms learnt during this phase, Hussain tells us, “I am not being modest, but I have not been a good dancer. There is always scope for improvement, and the lessons I learnt from Shiamak (Davar) were really encouraging. The manner in which he imparts positivity to his students is tremendous. We are not trained dancers, and all we knew was Bollywood dancing. It was nice to go back to basics, learn various dance forms, body balance and movements, and go forward. Learning the stunts and dance on the harness required great skills, and it was taught by a person from Australia. There is a bit of sword fighting and magic that had to be learnt, and Mr Ramesh, the famous magician, was kind enough to let go off a few tricks by teaching us the ploy.” On his return to television as the anchor of this season’s Indian Idol, he says, “It’s a nice feeling to go through this journey again and again, to see different people entertain us with their talent. The curiosity level amongst the audience for Indian Idol has never faded, and as an anchor, I look forward to every season. I feel privileged to be part of the people’s dreams. Every new year turns out to be better than the previous seasons in terms of the talent unearthed.” On his wife Tina designing his attire as always for Indian Idol, he states, “She keeps experimenting on her husband, and I can’t say much (laughs). On a serious note, she knows perfectly what looks good on me. I don’t really bother about what I am wearing as I know she would come up with the best for me.” On extending his family and embracing parenthood, Hussain shares, “It will happen when it has to happen. Many of our friends are presently enjoying parenthood and they have been telling us that it is a great feeling indeed. But as of now, I am juggling between Mumbai and Delhi. So we will wait for it to happen.” On a probable return to television fiction, the actor states, “There is nothing right now. This musical will go on forever, but actors might change. However, I have my commitments with them. But you never know, if I get something very interesting in fiction, I might even give it a try and balance it well by doing the play also. My fans have been writing to me about coming back to fiction. I would not want to disappoint them, if I get a chance.” Great to have you back on television, Hussain!!!
