MUMBAI: Tellychakkar.com has always been on the forefront when it comes to reporting about the latest happenings in the world of Television, Bollywood and the digital medium.
We exclusively reported about Zee5 launching a new webseries titled Phone A Friend for which the Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha fame Akhlaque Khan and Kundali Bhagya actress, Swati Kapoor will play the leads in the series. Phone a Friend is a 12-episode web-show revolves around a boy (Akhlaque) who will eventually come across a mobile phone which can talk and it will give him tips on impressing a girl (Swati). RJ-actor Mantra is also roped for the series. Mantra will be seen lending his voice as a mobile phone who will guide the lead boy.
The series is produced by Utopia Films. It is co-produced by Anish N Surana, Ashish and Surabhi Mittal.
Now the interesting part of this project is that this premise is being directed by the people who not only know their trade well but also know how to execute it in the best ways possible. We are talking about the director duo Allyson Patel and Yash Dave who have written, produced and directed this project. We dived into a quick conversation with them to know more about the project and in an candid conversation with Tellychakkar.com, they had some interesting things to share.
Allyson averred, "Well this is a sci-fi romantic comedy between a guy, a girl and a cell phone. In today's DNA age, our mobile phones have become our best friends. The concept is about how humans feel that they have invented artificial intelligence but what if, artificial intelligence already exists and they are not revealing themselves because we are too insecured as a species. With the climatic conditions changing and global warming, human's are destroying their world and the other species feels that if they don't explain the depth of the situation now, their world will also be in danger for the co-exist on the planet.
The subject is deep but the narrative is light hearted and will connect across target groups. "
Yash contributed, "While scripting we had Aki (Akhlaque Khan) in our mind. Apart from that, the most important character of this script apart from the lead was the voice and RJ Mantra was our first and only choice. We were extremely keen on having him on board. And fortunately, within a minute of hearing the narrative, Mantra agreed to be a part of the project. All in all, it’s a quirky and humorous tale about love, friendship and what it means to be truly human."
Concluding the interview, Allyson and Yash dropped hints about their next projects.
Allyson shared, " Next, we are launching India’s first fictional book in the screenplay format titled ‘Nirvana’." Yash added, "There is also a podcast webseries on the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, the world’s worst man-made disaster, even bigger than Chernobyl which will start soon. And since Question Mark has become a cult horror film among the fans with over million views, we’re returning to the horror genre with a really spooky feature film."
Way to go Yash and Allyson! We wish the duo and the team of Phone A Friend luck for the project and their future projects.
