Undekhi review: Surya Sharma shines in this gripping thriller

Sony LIV’S Undekhi will premier on July 10th.

MUMBAI: Sony LIV 2.0 has become a hub for content-driven movies and series. Your Honor starring Jimmy Sheirgill and movies like Bhonsle and Kadakh have been loved by the audience. Now, the platform is back with a unique thriller series titled Undekhi. It is directed by Ashish R. Shukla. It features Harsh Chhaya, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Abhishek Chauhan, Surya Sharma, and Anchal Singh.

The series has been the talk of the town since the teaser was launched. It did not reveal much but garnered a lot of public attention and interest because of its thrilling concept.

The story of the series takes off with the brutal murder of an police officer in the jungle. There are 3 suspects, 2 sisters and 1 man, who come to Manali. The sisters are dancers and have been called to perform at a marriage in the Atwal family. They are gangsters, and even the police are scared of them. The marriage is of Daman Atwal, played by Ankur Rathee, who is completely different from his father, played by Harsh Chhaya. Harsh's character is a fearless mafia don and is very powerful. Meanwhile, Rinku (Rajender Singh Atwal), played by Surya Sharma, is the right hand of Papaji (Harsh Chhaya) and always tries to save him.

The story further picks up when one of the dancers is murdered in front of a large number of people by Papaji (Harsh Chhaya). Don’t worry. This is not a spoiler. Then, the story focuses on what the family does to get away with the murder.

The screenplay of the series is power packed and will not let you feel bored. The direction is decent, and the sequences are designed beautifully. Manali has been captured very well in the series.

The dialogues are apt. Harsh Chhaya's character does abuse a little unnecessarily. The background music plays an important role and helps in crafting the drama and suspense.

Talking about the performances, Surya Sharma as Rinku has done an amazing job, and this is one of his best performances. Harsh Chhaya as a drunken man is decent. Another highlight is Dibyendu Bhattacharya as DCP Ghosh, who has a strong part to play. Abhishek Chauhan as Rishi is good, and Anchal Singh, Ayn Zoya, Sayandeep Sengupta, Ankur Rathee, and Apeksha Porwal are real and raw.

The positives of the series are the unique storyline and powerful screenplay. The direction and storytelling are also good. The acting of the leads make this series worth watching.

The negatives of the series are that a few scenes are not really needed, but the screenplay then comes to your rescue. The unnecessary use of abusive language could have been avoided.

Overall, Sony LIV’s Undekhi is completely worth your time, and the gripping storyline and powerful screenplay makes it a compulsory watch .

The series is all set to stream from July 10th on Sony LIV.
