MUMBAI: Just recently, Irrfan Khan’s son Babil took to his social media and wrote that Irrfan was defeated at the box office by ‘hunks with six-pack abs’ defying laws of physics and reality, photoshopped item songs and conventional representations of patriarchy. Nandita Das shared this on her Twitter, and filmmaker Onir aired his views on how the industry can evolve only with changing audience taste and industry that wants change. Replying to this tweet, Sona Mohapatra took a dig at OTT platforms and how they bowed down to the same few families of Bollywood. This especially after the announcement of 7 Bollywood films waiting for the digital premiere on Disney+ Hotstar.

Onir’s tweet read, “That is the story of the indie films ... be it the artists or the craftsmen. A combination of changing audience taste and an industry that wants change can help the industry evolve.” Commenting on this, Sona Mohapatra wrote how OTT platforms provided a ray of hope at first, but alas, they too bowed down to the Bollywood families. Her tweet read, “And just when we thought that there was a ray of hope with the OTT platforms coming in, no immediate Friday BO pressures and a chance to back worthy talent and narratives..but then same TV execs hired, bowing to the same 6/7 families of #Bollywood and voila, Mrs. Serial Nonsense.”
Sona Mohapatra has always been fearless when it comes to voicing her opinions on social media. After Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, the conversation about nepotism in Bollywood, and a few prominent Bollywood families ruling the industry was reignited.
