" I like to dance when I am not working"

Shayantani Ghosh could have made it big in Kolkata but the actor chose to pursue her career in Mumbai. The Bengali beauty has four regional films to her credit before she landed in the city of dreams and bagged a meaty role in Star Plus' Kumkum. And now lady luck seems to have beckoned on Shayantani who is all set to play the main lead in Ajay Sinha's new family drama, Ghar Ek Sapna for Sahara One. What brought you to Mumbai considering you are from Kolkata?
Shayantani Ghosh could have made it big in Kolkata but the actor chose to pursue her career in Mumbai. The Bengali beauty has four regional films to her credit before she landed in the city of dreams and bagged a meaty role in Star Plus' Kumkum. And now lady luck seems to have beckoned on Shayantani who is all set to play the main lead in Ajay Sinha's new family drama, Ghar Ek Sapna for Sahara One. What brought you to Mumbai considering you are from Kolkata? I am born and brought up in Kolkata and my parents always wanted me to finish my basic education and then take up a profession of my choice. I started with modelling and then went on to do a few short films in Kolkata. I have done four Bengali films (opposite Prasanjit) in a row. I'd come down to Mumbai for fun and someone spotted me when I'd gone for an audition and got selected for Kumkum. So why did you quit Kumkum so soon? I was selected for Kumkum to be a part of the generation leap. But I ended up quitting the show after two months as the character changed and it was different from what I had started as. I took a break for two months and later was offered Ghar Ek Sapna. What is your role like in this new show ? I play the main protagonist Kakul who has a Bihari background but at the same time she's very modern in her values and well educated. She goes for a friend's wedding and that's where a guy falls for her and flirts around with her. Finally due to circumstances she is forced to get married to this guy. She comes to Mumbai to her husband's house but because the family is against her as they had other plans for the son of the family, the girl doesn't get her due and falls prey to the tricks of the family. It's this girl's journey to make the house into her home and get everyone to accept her. Do you relate yourself to the character? Like every girl I also dream of having a nice family life with a caring husband. So somewhere I connect with her. So there are a lot of similarities between the real and reel Shayantani. What after Ghar Ek Sapna? I am going to take each day as it comes. I've done films and now doing television lets see how it all works out in future. Definitely Hindi movies are in my mind but I am doing television as it provides good women oriented shows. While commercial films don't have much scope for women besides just being in the background. And parallel cinema seems to provide much more creative satisfaction. Tell us about your personal life? It's just work for now and have no time for anything else and am working very hard for my show. I like to dance(Bharatnatayam and Jazz) when I am not working. For now my minds in Mumbai while my hearts in Kolkata as I have all my people out there.
