Is Bobby Deol starrer MX Original series ‘Aashram’ a sneak peek into the lives of Godmen and their Aashrams?

To avoid any untoward controversies, director Prakash Jha and MX Player have decided to release a disclaimer much before the trailer.

MUMBAI: Many media reports speculated that Bobby Deol is allegedly playing the role of self-proclaimed Guru Ram Rahim Singh in the upcoming MX Original series Aashram directed by Prakash Jha, and the disclaimer released by the makers of the show indicates that it is indeed based upon Godmen and the blind faith that people entrust upon them.

However, what hasn’t come to light is whether we will see any similarities between real-life Gurus on screen or whether it is genuinely not based on a particular cult but is just a fictitious story (as the disclaimer claims) about the various cults who exploit their followers' faith in them or victimise their followers with financial frauds and sexual misconduct.

Sources told a portal that to substantiate their stories, the producers got a research team to extensively research a few cult organisations. The findings were so disturbing that it has led to show fearlessly bringing to light the dark side of these Aashrams in the web series.

To avoid any untoward controversies, director Prakash Jha and MX Player have decided to release a disclaimer much before the trailer. The disclaimer video is a statement from the makers wherein they mention that they respect all gurus and their establishments and that they respect all religions and people’s faith.

The disclaimer, however, adds that if someone tries to take advantage of the common people, the fictional story of Aashram is an attempt to address it.  Apart from Bobby Deol, Aashram also stars Chandan Roy Sanyal, Anupriya Goenka, Darshan Kumaar, and Sachin Shroff.
