I want to play an Army officer on-screen: Shivin Narang

MUMBAI:  Be it Yuvraj of "Suvreen Guggal - Topper Of The Year", or Ranvijay of "Ek Veer Ki Ardaas... Veera", or Rudra of "Beyhadh 2", Shivin Narang has made fans go gaga over him with every role he has portrayed on-screen. Here's a quick chat with the young actor:

From 'Suvreen Guggal - Topper Of The Year' to 'Beyadh 2', what has been your biggest achievement?

Since the day I stepped in the industry till today I have only worked on my craft. I never wanted people to know me as just 'a good looking guy' or just as someone with a nice body. I feel looks are very temporary. I always wanted people to know and respect me for my work. I feel being a good actor is my biggest achievement and I have only worked towards becoming one.

How did you get 'Suvreen Guggal - Topper Of The Year'?

When I got my first break in 'Suvreen Guggal - Topper Of The Year', I was a normal Delhi boy, straight out of college. I got selected through social media and then did an audition and a look test and got selected for the role on my very first day in Mumbai. I didn't know anything about acting or the industry then, but I learnt a lot from everyone, even from the spot boy. There is so much that you can learn from all the people on the set.

Do you think 'Ek Veer Ki Ardaas... Veera' was a game-changer?

When you start your career by playing a romantic hero, people always see you like that. But if you do a challenging role like '...Veera', it boosts your career and people start looking at you differently. After my second show a lot of things changed and people started taking me seriously as an actor. That's when I, as an actor, understood the know-how of acting and it has been wonderful since then.

How do you choose a character?

I have never repeated any character of mine and have always tried to do something different from my previous role. As an actor, I try to explore as much as possible, because otherwise, it will be boring for both me and the audience.

What kind of roles are you looking forward to playing?

I want to play unique characters. I don't want to repeat the same thing. I want to play an Army officer on-screen that's on my list. I have not done a mythological show, so that's on my list too. And I also want to play a superhero. As a kid you dream of becoming a superhero like Superman or Spiderman, I want to be that on-screen.

You were getting offers for 'Khatron Ke Khiladi' earlier too. Why did you choose to go this year?

Yes, I was getting offers for 'Khatron Ke Khiladi' for a very long time, but I knew I am scared of a few things and so I was just avoiding it. I was also busy with my work commitments. But this time when they approached me for the show, I told myself 'Shivin what are you scared of? Let's do it.' And I went for the show. When I entered the show I was neither thinking that how will I look nor I wanted to create an image of myself. I just wanted to conquer my fears and wanted to be honest about them. And I did win over a few, though I aborted some and lost some, it was a lifetime experience being in the show. Moreover, I feel I changed as a person because just facing your fears gives you an insight about yourself.

What about the biggest and most controversial reality show 'Bigg Boss', is that on your list?

I did receive offers for 'Bigg Boss', but accepting it depends on a lot of factors, the first one being if I am ready to be locked in a house for such a long time. Having said that, the format of the show is great, it has a huge fan following, and I have followed a couple of seasons. Obviously, as an audience you love it, because you get to see a different side of the participants, so it's fun for us, but it must be pain for them. But, never say never, you don't know what life might throw at you in the future."
