The nearest thing I found to the character of Devyani was Sridevi’s character in Sadma: Ghum Hai Kiske Pyaar Mein actress Mitaali Nag

MUMBAI: Mitaali Nag is an exceptionally skilled artist.

Currently playing the role of Devyani in Star Plus’ Ghum Hai Kisike Pyaar Mein, Mitaali got chatty with us in a candid interview.

She said, “Fans feel it is a mentally challenged character but it is not. She is very childlike. Because of a trauma in her past, she behaves like a 5 year old. She knows that she wants to get married, have a husband, enjoy married life and babies. So it is because of a trauma in her past she behaves like that. She is stuck on the fact that she wants to get married and there is a reason behind that which will be revealed in the future episodes.

Initially, when I was given the brief, you tend to take reference from actors who have done similar characters in the past and I googled a lot and the nearest thing I found to the character of Devyani was Sridevi’s character in Sadma. So I watched the film and due respect to Sridevi, she is a legend but I felt according to the character brief I received for my role, I had to tone down the character. Devyani’s trauma is something else and as an actor, I applied my expertise to the character of Devyani. Infact, on the day I went on the set, the creative too told me that they would want to see a little shift from the character in Sadma and not the same. People would want to know why she is like that and when the story will open up, the story will get all the more interesting.”

Well said Mitaali! (Also Read: Mitaali Nag launches her new song “Love Se Thodi Khaas”)
