A Simple Murder review: The gripping storyline makes this an engaging dark comedy

Sony Liv’s A Simple Murder is out, and here is the complete review of the series.

MUMBAI: One of the most loved and preferred platforms when it comes to content is Sony Liv. It has given the audience several shows and movies that are high on content and that have been loved by fans all over, such as Your Honour, Avrodh, and Scam 1992 – The Harshad Mehta Story.

Well the platform is now back with another highly engaging and content-driven show titled “A Simple Murder," which stars some amazing talent like, Priya Anand, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Amit Sial, Sushant Singh, Ayaz Khan, and Gopal Datt in the leads and is directed Sachin Pathak.

The story revolves around a middle-class man Manish, played by Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and his wife Richa, played by Priya Anand, whose lives change after a murder. How the murder is directly or indirectly connected to them and the other cast of the series is something that is amazingly showcased with a touch of humour.

The screenplay at the beginning is amazing and manages to hold your attention, but as the series progresses, it loses grip, and you may feel the series is deviating from its title and the concept. The direction by Sachin Pathak is good.

The performances delivered by all the cast are a treat to watch. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub was amazing in the role of a middle-class man, and once again, the actor proves his versatility in the show. Sushant Singh was also too good as the contract killer, and Amit Sial added value with his part. Priya Anand was the surprise package and was brilliant, but a special mention goes to one of the most talented actors we have seen in the show... Gopal Datt as the investigating officer of the case. His comic timing is outstanding.

The positive points are the storytelling and screenplay, which apart from few portions  manages to hold your attention, and the performances of the lead stars. The touch of humour in the thriller makes it different from the rest and makes you laugh in the toughest situation too.

The negative points, as mentioned earlier, are the portions where the screenplay deviates. The performances however come to your rescue.

Over, keeping all the minor negative points aside, this dark comedy is completely worth your time and can be binge-watched.

Team TellyChakkar goes with 3.5 stars for A Simple Murder.
