Hot hunk Siddharth Malhotra has gained rave reviews for his superb performance in Karan Johar’s just released movie, Student Of The Year (SOTY).
And in a candid chat with MovieChakkar this young lad said that he is hopeful that his film might revolutionize the school sporting scene in India. In SOTY, he is playing a sport guy (state level athlete) Abhi who comes to this school where the film is set and wants to win the student of the year competition as he needs the scholarship to further his education.
“The story is about friendships and love and how my character has to balance his relationships with his goal of winning this competition.”
When asked which school in India would be as beautiful and full of sporting and recreational facilities as his school is shown in the promos... Siddharth showed no qualms admitting, “This is indeed cinematic liberty but who am I to question the great Karan Johar? The school you see actually is Forest Reserve Institute in Dehradun and since we shot in winter it had the look of London.”
Comparing to his college in my Delhi he said, “We had just one ground which has to accommodate all outdoor sports.”
However, Siddharth who himself is a Rugby player in a Delhi club rather looks at the positive side and stated, “I hope that some rich philanthropist or somebody in government actually watches our film and takes the effort to build word class sports infrastructure (basket ball, swimming and even dancing) in schools across the length and breadth of the nation. We Indians are crazy after Bollywood and may be it will create the right catalyst for change.”
In closing, this handsome dude who was an assistant director with Karan Johar before coming in front of camera added that, “Our film is not about changing the education system, but yes we have few scenes which question the entire sports vs academics scenario which blithers the learning dynamics in our land.”
