MUMBAI: Mahima Chaudhry made her Bollywood debut with Subhash Ghai’s film Pardes. She was a popular actor back then. But she faced a lot of problems and challenges in both her professional and personal lives. Mahima recently poured her heart out about her life. She spoke about the challenges she had faced while raising her daughter, Ariana and fighting for her custody. Mahima got married to architect Bobby Mukherjee in 2006 and they started having a troubled married life that led to separation.
She said, “When we separated and thinking of putting our daughter Ariana to school, we were having issues to which school we should put her and we were not agreeing on anything. This happened to be another thing we were not agreeing on and the night he was leaving for his European tour, suddenly he changed his mind and said that he has decided to put her in the school he went to. When I said no, he said he is not going to sign for it. I said, “Don’t sign”. Then, he left for his trip abroad and it was a 14-day trip. I went back to the school and I remember they looked at the form and said that the father hasn’t signed. I said he is out of town. They said, “Can we have him here to sign when he is back?”
She then called her lawyer and told him the situation. He told her that the father signature is very important on an admission form. He told her, “If you are married, he is the guardian and if you are not married, the mother is the guardian.”“My lawyer then said that I am lucky as the right to education bill had just got passed and it said, “If the school has accepted your form and given her the admission, they can’t throw her out because of the father’s signature”, said Mahima.
Mahima revealed that she had two miscarriages while she was having issues in her marital life. She also revealed that there was a tug of war for the child’s custody. “The minute I used to leave town, he used to come and take the child. My mother can’t say anything as it is his child”.
