MUMBAI: The Married Woman on AltBalaji has become a milestone in changing perceptions towards the community and took longer steps for acceptance towards the change. The show brought many answers to those unanswered questions that often demeaned or shut the people from LGBTQ previously.
Ridhi Dogra played the pivotal role of Aastha in the show. In an exclusive conversation with her, we asked Ridhi about her views on self-censorship on OTT and its journey to which she mentioned, "There is self-censorship attempted to put in place. A few years ago there were barely any platforms, now it is far more structured. Before Netflix, Amazon, and all came on board at that time I was very sceptical at agreeing to projects. It was not what you would want to do due to not having censorship in place."
"Just because there was no censorship people would create anything. I believe creative people should consider self-censorship and create content responsibly. If we are saying a story that is loud, has crass language as far as it does justice to the content it is fine but not because you have the freedom to show everything,” she added.
It is indeed important for the storytellers to be responsible for their craft, not everything really requires bloodshed, crass words, or nudity.
Talking about the structure in the web industry, Ridhi shares that "with more stars entering the space OTT is all set to grow further. If the freedom of expression and creativity could be handled responsibly, the audience will have a lot of variety to watch and actors would get better roles to experiment with."
