'I envy Ekta Kapoor as she is passionate': Persis Siganporia

Though he was guest editor of Tellychakkar.com just for a day, Viraf Phiroz took his role up quite passionately. Given his child like fascination for creative minds on TV we aren’t surprised that he dedicated a series of interviews to the brains that are behind the twist and turns of our favourite TV shows. So here is another one from the same series .. watch this space for more!

Here below, we present the transcript of the chat he had with Persis Siganporia, the Creative Producer of Best Friends Forever? that is being currently aired on Channel V. Persis was an advertising whiz kid who then took to TV and since then has also been responsible for shows like Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi, .Kitni Mohabbat Hai (both seasons), Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi, Left Right Left, Bhaskar Bharti and Humse Hai Liife. A lowdown: So! I have been given the opportunity of being the guest editor of tellychakkar.com. This could possibly also be the first time for the TV industry that one bawaji is interviewing another, so please take me seriously. (Laughs): Fine! Persis, what makes you tick? Well, it’s symphony, the enthusiasm of the team and the passion to create great content together. It's a team effort and togetherness that is very important if you want to excel. What do you do when you are not feeling too creative? (still laughing) I listen to music, watch films and just unwind myself. Will writing for Indian TV ever be free from the influence of Bollywood or will be its own influence someday? Since the majority of TV viewers are from the B & C centres and the reach of television is mostly centered in these places, people who look for aspiration are influenced by Bollywood. Hence, this looks difficult unless we come out with niche programming. Do you think actors dig adulation and why? All actors thrive for it and it's a give and take method. Hence, if adulation pushes them to perform better then so be it. And isn't adulation akin to appreciation; tell me who doesn't crave for appreciation? Is there any creative person whom you envy? Yes, I envy Ekta Kapoor as she is passionate, consistent and persistent. It’s a well-known fact that every time she breaks her own benchmark and excels. Is there something that you really hope for the Indian TV industry? Yes, I hope the TV industry comes up with niche programming, good documentaries, short films and qualitative weekly programming. By all this, we will have better quality and hopefully good pre-production budgets and enough time to create content like the shows abroad where you research, train and bank the product. Do you want to get involved with films or are you happy doing your bit on TV? Hmm! My next step forward is films as it reflects growth for me. Hence, I want to do films and am quite passionate about them. Who are the actors you fond of? Actors I like include Nakul Sahdev, Rohan Shah and Yuvraj Thakur- they are young in blood and great learners. Karan Kundra is very passionate about his work. Kritika Kamra is hardworking, honest and passionate about her work. Mona Wasu, Mona Singh and Ragini Khanna are natural and flawless. Rajesh Khera has dynamic screen presence and reinvents every time and works hard on his look too. Mark Parekh- surprises me every time by being unpredictable. Abhishek Rawat is subtle in his eyes which speak volumes. Vivek Mushran is versatile. Viraf Phiroz Patel is a natural and an inquisitive actor who interviews me (starts to laugh again).
