MUMBAI: Filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar has been under the scanner for allegedly showing obscene scenes involving minor children in the Marathi film, Nay Varan Bhat Loncha Kon Nay Koncha. An FIR was registered against the actor-director.
The division bench of Justice SS Shinde and NR Borkar of the Bombay High Court had refused to grant protection to Mahesh Manjrekar and others associated with the Marathi film.
The Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted director Mahesh Manjrekar and the producers of the Marathi film 'Nay Varan Bhat Loncha Kon Nay Koncha' protection from arrest for an obscene shot involving minors.
The court also directed the police not to take any coercive action against the director or the film's team, who had an FIR registered against them.
The filmmaker's lawyer had argued the film had no such scene and that the same was only part of the trailer that was eventually removed from YouTube.
This ruling comes a week after the court refused to grant the filmmaker of the makers of the Marathi film, any relief in the case.
Mahesh Manjrekar works primarily in Hindi films, alongside Marathi, Telugu, and Bhojpuri films. He is credited with directing the critically acclaimed films Vaastav: The Reality (1999), Astitva (2000) and Viruddh... Family Comes First (2005). He is also known as host of the reality show, Bigg Boss Marathi since 2018.
