MUMBAI: For a long time, Kanika Mann has been synonymous with Guddan, now the gorgeous much has finally come up with a new character with her show Roohaniyat.
In an exclusive conversation with Kanika, we spoke about the show, her character and how different does it feel to be a part of OTT after doing Guddan on Television for three long years. You wouldn't want to miss out on her intriguing responses:
How was your experience working for Roohaniyat?
The experience was amazing and different. After Guddan, I wanted to explore different characters so yes, this was a great opportunity. I thought of taking a break after Guddan as it had created an image of mine, which is beautiful but we have to break it to move ahead with a heavy heart for sure. During the break I had a few offers when Roohaniyat came, I heard the script and the character got me to connect so I was sure that I wanted to do this.
What intrigued you about the story?
The story is quite relatable to everyone I feel, everyone can relate to the character, it is hidden in every girl and boy. Each character in the series has their own Roohaniyat. The story has mystery, drama, thrill and love. Everyone has felt heartbreaks, it is barely a few who get their love in the first shot. When we really like and get excited about the story then we work better.
Tell us about Arjun and the team you are working with?
Arjun is such a fabulous person, he supportive and friendly. Onscreen or offscreen he is full of energy. And the whole team, be it direction, the actors' everyone was really amazing. Smita ma'am who is playing my mother, he husband is directing the show so the whole environment was comforting.
Roohaniyat is an MX Serial and not a series?
The experience of OTT over Tv is completely intriguing. On Tv you have to deliver 18 minutes a day, well Roohaniyat is not a show but a complete 52 episodes serial. The major difference is we knew what the end is, with Guddan playing a triple role, in the end, was completely unexpected. Here we knew how we were portraying the character so we have the time to grow with it. Tv has to be on the spot, so here as it was all planned we could give more inputs for our characters. As we can set the releasing dates, we can plan better, then comes the creative freedom, in television we cannot do it all. On tv we have to keep a certain kind of image and keep the audience in mind we need to create drama but with OTT we can be more subtle and avoid dramatic reactions. In Guddan and Roohaniyat both, I played a 19-year-old but there is a lot of difference, with Guddan we focused on bright colours and she was overtly chirpy and bubbly. Here it is as normal as it could be.
