MUMBAI: Actress Poonam Jangra has stepped into the character of Rajni for Prateek Sharma and Parth Shah’s new project, Tumm Se Tumm Tak, which is being produced under their banner, Studio LSD. Talking about her character, she shared that this role is quite different from the ones she has played before.
“I come from a small town in Haryana, and growing up, I closely observed the struggles of a lower-middle-class household. Those observations became key to my preparation for this role. This character challenged me in a new way—it pushed me to explore a different emotional range,” she said.
“Unlike the largely positive characters I’ve played before, Rajni comes with a mix of traits that aren't completely good or bad. That complexity was both refreshing and demanding,” she added.
Talking about her character, she said that Rajni is the typical nosy neighbor with whom you have a bittersweet relationship. “She’s both a supporter and critic in Pushpa’s life—the kind of friend who’s hard to live with but equally hard to live without. Most of my past roles have been of positive, soft-hearted characters, but Rajni is layered. She’s both optimistic and cynical, which makes her more real and complex,” she said.
She in fact stressed that the audience will find her character quite relatable. She said, “Rajni is a character that almost everyone can relate to. She reminds you of someone you know—maybe a bua, a chachi, a friend, or a neighbor. Her presence is familiar, and her quirks and opinions mirror people we’ve all encountered,” Poonam ended.
