He has been part of many films and impressed the audience with his performance.
In 1991, the actor was supposed to start his career with a romantic film with Kajol. However, due to his unprofessionalism, he was replaced from the film.

When Saif was struggling for work, Amrita Singh was an established actress in Bollywood. During this phase, Saif and Amrita had met for a photoshoot, and had gradually become friends. He was attracted towards Amrita during the shoot, and had asked her for a dinner date. Instead of going out, Amrita had asked him to come to her house for dinner. After the meal, the two had kissed and had slept in different rooms. However, after this, Saif had ended up asking Amrita for Rs 100.
Amrita Singh, in an interview with Simi Garewal for her show, Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, had recalled the story of why Saif Ali Khan had borrowed Rs 100 from her after spending two days at her home. Amrita had shared that Saif had no money as he was around 20 years old at that time. Amrita had said, “He had spent 2 days at my home and he had to go for shooting. First, he asked me for Rs 100 because he had no money. So, I said 'why don't you take my car?' Then Saif said that he had the production car waiting for him outside so he doesn't need my car."
Amrita wanted him to come back so she had told Saif to take her car, so that he could come back to return it. She had added, “No, do take it. If nothing else, you will at least come back to return the car." On the same show, Amrita had also shared that it was only Saif, who was patient with her. She had mentioned, “I could never imagine myself being married to a man younger than me. Saif was the only person who I had met in my life who was patient with me. That meant a lot to me.”
Saif and Amrita had tied the knot in 1991. However, they had parted ways after 13 years of their married life.
