Avinash Kore, the make-up man of Jhilmil Sitaron Ka Aangan Hoga, on Sahara One and Pyaar Ka Daard on Star Plus, is a person who has the power to turn anyone beautiful/handsome. His brush is his identity. From the last 17 years, he is being heaped with praises for his immaculate art of make-up. In a chat with Tellychakkar.com, Avinash opens up and talks. Excerpts: Tell us something about yourself? Since the last 17 years, I have been working as a make-up artist in the television industry and since the last 8 years, I have joined forces with Rajshri Productions. Having taken my education from J J School of Arts, Mumbai, I started my career as a commercial designer when most of my work was done only on Photoshop. After some time, I got tired sitting before the computer and thought of doing something creative. I started assisting my uncle who used to be a make-up artist for films as well as for television. I used to get inspired by the art that his hands dispensed. I soon opted out of commercial designing and got into this field. The first show that I ever did was for Sridevi’s television show Malini Iyer on Sahara One. Besides, I did a lot many ad campaigns, conducted seminars for fashion shows. Today too, I take classes to impart my talent to people who are new to the trade. How has your journey been so far? Well, it has been very nice. It’s only that whatever I used to do in my earlier days while pursuing painting as a hobby, the same I do on the faces of my actors. Make-up is not what I thought for, but it was something I was meant for. Having grown up seeing my uncle, I made it a point to never leave this brush no matter what it takes from me in return. How do you differentiate between make-up for films and for television? For television, the make-up needs to be little loud because the camera that is used is of the normal type; so to make the character look more promising. On the contrary, when you talk about films, the camera plays a major role because the vision is of high definition so you don’t really have to show much of make-up on the face. For any character to be shown effective; 50 per cent of it is taken care of by make-up while the rest is taken care of by the camera. Differentiation is not much of a task because we very well know the kind of camera that will be used. In our field, camera decides the kind of make-up to be done on a subject. How do you plan the kind of make-up that will suit a particular character? Well, for any character to be created with the help of make-up, we need to first learn about the character in person. So at the outset, we try to know the nature of the character in the show and how he/she will be shown on television. Like everybody knows, we do loud make-up for a vamp and for lead role, we do simple and normal make-up. Make-up can actually make a person fall for what he/she see on television, so to start with my work, I need to first do a brief study of my character as a whole. Who is you favourite actor from films and from television? Well, from Bollywood, I like Sushmita Sen while I adore Disha Parmar as well as Suhasi Dhami from the field of television. How do you like to see an actor… with or without make-up? Definitely I will choose my bread earner, will opt for an actor with make-up. It’s not like that really, but make-up makes a person look spotlessly clean which every person on earth admires. So it’s me who is actually doing it for them. Most importantly, after the make-up, the kind of satisfaction and happiness I get to see on the faces of an actor makes me proud of my work. Which actor loves the make-up done only by you? It was Ayesha Takia, who always wanted her make-up to be done by me while Disha Parmar loves my style only. And of course, there are many more. Do you give beauty tips to actors? Yes, all the time and the artiste also gives a close hearing to my advice. What are the products you use for makeup? We really have to take good care of the skin of the actors and we can’t really play with them. I personally use Kryolan, B&D and Mac cosmetics products. What advice would you like to give to new upcoming people in this field? Make-up is not only about holding a brush, putting foundation or kajal, there’s much more to the art. Every make-up artist should first learn to judge the different complexion of people and then give them the kind of style that would suit them. You can’t just make a fair person look black and vice versa because every person needs a different shade of style. What are your future plans? Well, I wish to open an institution for budding make-up artists.
