The Indian TV industry is unique in the sense that it has daily serials; whereas seasons are generally the norm in foreign countries. The viewers are at leisure while sitting back and watching daily soaps whereas the cast and crew of the shows arduously work day in day out to make the product interesting enough. Herewith, we present a list of daily serials which have been nominated for the Twelfth Indian Telly Awards. Read on. The first show on the nomination list is Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke on Zee TV, beautifully depicts the two Indias we have in our Bharat- the traditional and modern. It excellently bridges the gap between these two Indias existing within the same nation. Viewers love to tune in to see how the city bred Gunjan (Roopal Tyagi) is imbibing small town values from Rachna (Mahima Makwana) whereas Rachna is getting more broad minded through her prolonged interaction with Gunjan. Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon on Colors is also an engrossing serial which is why it has also been nominated. R.K (Vivian D’Sena) will surely go down in the history of Indian television as the legendary angry young man. R.K’s deep baritone voice will also go on to be one of the most memorable voices on TV. The show which from its very inception had focused on launching a very filmy serial with a classical touch has successfully continued to do so. Its unique love story has made it amongst the highest TRP garnering shows not only on Colors but also on Indian television. After the entry of Avinesh Rekhi as Sultan, the show has hiked in popularity as the plot has got all the more exciting with the development of a love triangle. Punar Vivah on Zee TV has very realistically explored a remarriage- both the joy associated with entering into matrimony again as well as the trials and tribulations that are often associated with remarriage in the format of a highly entertaining family drama. With remarriages being more acceptable in Indian society; there are many Indians who can relate to the show too. Women pursuing higher education is gaining popularity on TV. Also on our nomination list is Star Plus’s Diya Aur Baati Hum the inspiration of which was garnered from a newspaper article about a husband who was a paani puri vendor inspiring his wife to study further to be a civil servant. Diya Aur Baati Hum is an endearing love story which also carries the social message that husbands should come forward to encourage their wives instead of trying to subjugate their talents fearing that it will be a blow to their male ego if the wife is more professionally successful. It is very progressive to see Sooraj, a sweet meat maker encouraging his dear wife to fulfill her ambition of being an IPS officer. We couldn’t help but nominate Balika Vadhu — Kachchi Umar Ke Pakke Rishte which has successfully crossed 1000 episodes quite some time ago and is still rocking; and still in sync with its central theme of exploring the social evil of child marriage. The child bride Anandi grew up, got divorced and remarried. Even the actress who played the adult Anandi was replaced. Despite all this its popularity has remained untarnished. Kudos to the creative team for making Anandi move on in life to marry Shiv- a man who honours and loves her instead of making her return to Jagya- the husband who had hurt and betrayed her. Qubool Hai has been nominated for daring to try a different path. There were skeptics who thought that a show set in a Muslim family wouldn’t work as the majority of viewers wouldn’t like to see a tale which unfolds in a minority community. If the story is good, there will be viewership for it which Qubool Hai has proved. It is refreshing to see a sprightly protagonist Zoya (Surbhi Jyoti) who is rooted in culture despite being modern. It’s nice to see a jeans clad heroine for a change whereas most of the other female protagonists are clad in sarees and salwar suits. Our final nomination is for Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyara Pyara which strives in spreading the social message which is pro-marriage. Naakul Mehta (Aditya Harish Kumar) who was disillusioned with the institution of marriage was showed the other side of the coin by his dear wife Pankhuri (Disha Parmar) who has faith in love, relationships and marriages. In addition to this there is family drama which makes it quite an engaging show. If you have a favourite in the above mentioned list vote for it on… http://tellyawards.indiantelevision.com/y2k13/poll/login.php
