MUMBAI: Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai has become the longest-running TV show. Abhimanyu and Akshara are winning hearts with their romance. Harshad Chopda plays Abhimanyu while Pranali Rathod portrays the character of Akshara.
The show is gearing up for some interesting twists ahead. We got in touch with the stalwart Pragati Mehra to know about the characters that interest her and more. Check out what she had to reveal:
What kind of roles have always been at your interest?
As I have been limited to doing Television fortunately, and unfortunately because I have not got the opportunity to explore other mediums, so I have been stuck in the zone of saas, bua and all. One thing that has always interested me to do a hardcore love story in my age bracket. That is something I would really look forward to do without those unwanted twists; how you read a novel or like a mature love story with various tracks.
With the new shows are there horizons opening for mature stories?
I would really love to see something like that, having said that makers and the broadcasters know the mathematics far better than performers. It is not only about creativity alone, it is also about commerce. There has to be a happy marriage between them. There have been times when we were only doing saas-bahu drama, then there were shows narrated from the child's perspective. There has been such phases in the industry and I think we are at the threshold of a shift.
If you were to do any other character from Yeh Rishta, which one would it be?
There aren't many female characters in the show, looking at the age bracket that I fill in, there is only Mahima or Manjari. I am very happy with Mahima and I wouldn't mind doing Manjari but I am not sure how convincing would I look. As an actor, that is a zone every actor should experiment with. It's not that because I don't look like that, I shouldn't do it. Definitely, body language and physicality does play a major role. There aren't much options, going by doing a love story, I should be doing Akshara.
