MUMBAI: Anupam Bhattacharya is a known name in the entertainment world. The actor has charmed the viewers with his acting prowess in TV, films and OTT projects. After taking a calculated break from TV, Bhattacharya is set to return to the small screen with Jhanak's spin-off show Ishani.

In an exclusive interview with TellyChakkar, Anupam revealed why he chose to mark his comeback on TV with Ishani, he said, "I was beginning to feel that I was losing relevance in the TV market, especially because I had been keeping away from it deliberately. So, when I was offered a leading role in Jhanak (Ishani), it checked all the boxes for me to return. It had everything I was looking for before committing to a daily soap—depth in character, strong narrative, and good production value.

Talking about his character in the show, Anupam said, "I play Shashwat Sengupta in Ishani. He’s a strong but complex character—a rich businessman and a widower with two teenage children. He marries Ishani to ensure his household and children are cared for. However, his fragile ego and inability to truly appreciate Ishani for all that she does create a layered and compelling dynamic between them. That relationship forms the core of an engaging story."

We asked the seasoned actor about his thoughts on Ishani being a separate entity from Jhanak. He added, "Honestly, I think it’s a bold move. Jhanak is a flagship show with a proven audience and strong market presence. To break away from that and create a separate identity for Ishani is challenging, especially with a late-night slot. But I have immense confidence in my producers—Magic Moments Motion Pictures—and our director Chirag. Megha Chakraborty, who plays Ishani, is an extremely talented actress and a wonderful co-star. I believe together, we can do full justice to the show."

Here's wishing the team all the best for their new beginnings!
